I went to the range twice today.  Before going I loaded up 20 rounds.  10 rounds each with the same bullet but 2 different powders.  I recorded the velocity with my Garmin.  I went back home and did the same thing.  Only this time I switched to a different bullet but kept the same 2 powders.  It's only 7 miles from my house to the range.  I had primed brass ready to go.  All I had to do was measure the powder and press in the bullets.

Loaded more 6.5 CM today and will probably do some 300 Win Mag later.  It is so fricken relaxing to put on a good military documentary in my nice, cool basement while assembling little warheads

Bought 200 once fired STARLINE 350 legend brass for $15 a hundred.

No idea how this site got one fired starline... but hopefully it's good.

Spent Saturday loading shotgun stuff.

A batch of 20 ga, 28 ga and .410 TSS turkey loads. Roll crimped the 20 ga and .410 loads.

I like to keep 12 boxes minimum of clay shooting ammo for all shotguns (12, 16, 20, 28, .410) on hand and was seriously falling behind on all. Got those back up to inventory after doing the TSS loads.

Acquired a bunch more lead from an estate deal my son and I have bought from previously.  Mostly linotype still in type form, about 200 lbs. Need to smelt some of the stuff I have and do some casting before the weather turns crummy again.

Son also bought what he thought was a 1k of CCI LR primers still in the outer cardboard box for $40…. It was actually 3k in the older small packaging.  Dumb luck on his part.  I am sure they will work just fine in .308 plinking loads.

Loaded 10 test loads of 5.6x50R Mag for my combination gun.

Going to the range tomorrow to test them out against lighter factory loads, but it might be that the twist rate of the gun is wrong for my 62 grain bullets and it would like 55 grain bullets (which I don't have) more. Have to figure an accurate load before the grouse season starts in a couple of weeks.

Loaded 30 test rounds of 350 legend with SW SBR SOCOM and 2 different bullets.

28.0, 28.5, and 29.0 with Hornady 170 gr Interlok and 160 gr Fusion Blems.

I SMELL VENISON BABY!

My gun mentor's good friend passed away recently.  I ended up with a bunch of reloading stuff that gentleman left behind.  Today I sorted through it.

Attachment Attached File

These boxes are bigger than a fat .50 cal can.  One is full of partial boxes of projectiles, the other full of brass and random loaded ammo.  I spent some time today sorting them out.

I DO NOT plan to shoot the reloads.  I squirreled them away for a rainy day to pull down.

These were the oldest looking boxes of bullets.

Among other odds and ends, I got a Lee progressive press and a box full of dies, turrets, and other bits and pieces.  I will most likely start a thread once I decide to graduate to a progressive press.  It looks like it would be handy.

Shot 10 test loads of 5.6x50R Mag for my combination gun.

Gun does NOT like 62 grain projectiles. Poor accuracy, no grouping to speak of, and even the V0s were not very consistent.

Have to next buy and try 50 and 55 grain ones as the commercial 55 grain ones I shot as a comparison group shot decently.

Destroyed a alot of that $15  starline. Ripped rims  off a dozen.

Must have been shot in a really out of spec chamber. Cartridge base is .15 thousandths larger than my unsized twice fired in an AR Starline.

Cleaned the die 4 times. Two different kinds of lube... ridiculous amount of force. Tried doing small increments at a time to figure it out... still rolled off rims.

Contacted seller. Preparing for CC dispute.

Stopped at Harbor Freight today for other reasons, and stumbled on the display model 18 pound vibratory tumbler on the clearance shelf for $50.  I figured a spare at that price was worth it.
I guess they have replaced the old version with one of their new brands.

Loaded 50 5.56 77gr OTM loads after mic-ing 1k projos I got from midway on a sale after realizing that there was a 30/100ths range of lengths of projos in the lots I received and separated them into bins that had a 5/100ths range.

I didn't expect them to be perfect, don't need them to be.  But they're loading to different COAL with the different lengths, which was making things come out weird or required resetting my die every cartridge to achieve the desired COAL.

Purchased 10lbs of powder from American reloading (their blue dot analog) and 500 9mm hst blems.

Planning to load another 100 this afternoon.

While there I picked up four 50rd plastic ammo boxes for my .38S&W project.

Decapped and recovered about 150 primers from 38/357 I'd primed some 30+ yrs ago. These were from an era before I even dry tumbled cases prior to reloading. The things you come across when doing a complete inventory of your components and ammo.

Setup the APP for swaging and pulled the handle a few hundred times.  Having the Dillon case feeder attached to it makes a huge difference.  Unfortunately, I still have more to do.  I think I'm done picking up range brass, until I actually need brass.

Went to the range and grabbed a 5 gal. bucket full of assorted brass from our brass bins at our various ranges. I sorted it at home for possible useful brass and found 48 pieces of Win 30-30 brass, 56 pieces of Win .308 brass and 12 pieces of Rem. 30-06 brass that looked to be fresh, once fired so I tumbled and case prep'd them and put them in a baggie for further inspection and possible use.

I also found 152 pieces of Win .45 acp brass and 37 pieces of Win .357 Mag brass that look fresh and new so I tumbled them and put them into a baggie for further inspection and possible use. The rest of the brass was either obviously reloaded or random head stamps so those went into my scrap bin for sale to the metal recycler.

I also found that Murdoch's Ranch and Supply was selling 1 lb cans of Win WSF powder for only $24.99/lb so I stopped by and bought the 3 lbs they had on the rack. I've tried it before loading up 10 rds of 165 and 180 grn from a friend's stash so I decided to add to my stock. It worked well in my .40 carbine loads so now besides Power Pistol, Unique and TiteGroup, I also have WSF as well.

Working on putting together a couple toolheads from the piles of random things I've been accumulating over the last year or two.

Semi-universal dies with no markings are fun when you have them all mixed together! I won't be doing that again.

Getting the dies cleaned up, in the toolheads, and the toolhead labeled so there's no confusion next time I need to load some 300 SAUM or whatever.

What a difference a day makes. Yesterday, it was mid 80's and sunny but the clouds came in the afternoon and it rained most of the night in our valley while it snowed at the higher peaks. Some high peaks got as much as 8" of snow. Not bad for the first day of fall.

Today it's 48 and cloudy (summer to winter in 1 day) so instead of going to the range to shoot, I decided to load up some 30-30 plinking rounds with the brass I collected the other day.

Here in Colorado we don't use a 30-30 for hunting as the ranges typically are longer than the round is effective at. I have a 30-30 'just because' so I shoot mostly about 2,000 fps plinking loads using 33.5 grns of W-760 I have a keg of I got  at a steal about 12 years ago for my son's Win model 70 30-06.

So, this morning I took out the 48 pieces I set aside, checked them and determined that they were in fact once fired. Then I took some of my X-Treme plated 150 grn plinkers, some W-760 powder and a few of my stock of Win LR primers and added to my plinker stock.

If I can't shoot, then making more ammo is the next best thing.
