Why Did The IDF Change Pistol Grip Panels?

Research on this hasn't revealed much. All I know for certain is I haven't seen a photo of an IDF X95 that has the original cutlass grip w/the 'newer' grooved grips panels, only the checkered grip panels.
By all means, please feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken.
