The X5... If it is earth facing and going to impact... What timeframe are we looking at?

Quoted: The X5... If it is earth facing and going to impact... What timeframe are we looking at? View Quote It is earth facing and it is a full contact C ( full halo ) . I don't know what the timing on arrival is. Typically the fastest ones take 15-18 hours, slower ones can take days. This one has a median velocity of 1008 Km/sec. Max of 2000 km/sec, minimum of 142 km/sec so my guess is probably tonight sometime in the early morning hours, but just a guess |

Aside from the aurora display have any issues been reported due to the solar storm?
I'm disappointed that I crashed early and didn't see anything last night, maybe another chance tonight though. |

Couldn't see anything with naned eye but the camera picked it up...I guess. Doesn't get dark until 10pm so I probably slept through a better show. Attached File Attached File |

Excited for tonight. Going to grill have have a fire out back waiting. We amazed that it was visible with my eyes. I'll busy out the NV tonight, but the purple colors were really neat.

Headed to the family property today for some shooting and tractoring. Hope we get a light show tonight. No light pollution there and good views of the northern sky.

I'll see if I can find the High-Current Z-pinch and Petroglyphs paper on IEEE.
It would be interesting to see if any of these petroglyphs could be dated and if those date ranges correlate to ancient C14 tree ring anomalies. |

Another Solar Storm Coming, Level 5 Event | S0 News May.11.2024 |

We are in G5 right now. As Mach said the big X5.89 will hit us. It appears that we still have 3 CME’s on the way. Tonight should be another great show. Low level Auroras are expected. The grid and infrastructure have held up well. GPS seems to be the most affected system.
I’m personally looking forward to tonight and the Auroras again. Last night I could hear my different neighbors children in awe of the storm. It’s a good thing to get people outside and enjoy the wonders of the world we do that to little these days. |

Guessing this was probably the most-photographed Aurora Borealis event in human history

View Quote The auto steer system on my tillage tractor (just uses WAAS) was largely useless. It would want to be 10-15 ft off at times. The GPS in the planter tractor held up better but that uses RTK. Still lost differential GPS twice and I started using markers as a backup in case it went out. That said it wasnt being as accurate as it should be but I'm sure it was still better than me using the markers. |

I haven't seen this one, and glad to see that he did a positional study. I'm still trying to find Part I, where he does a good job of showing the plasma experiments against what may be their historical recording in the rock art - similar rock art on different continents. |

Heading to Pisgah NF with the family for an over nighter, hoping for a repeat!

I went out a few time overnight and into the early hours of morning. Nothing. Had a few friends that drove up closer to the Red River to get away from DFW light pollution and they said all they got was a faint red glow using iPhones in night mode. I'm going to try with my DSLR again tonight.

These pictures look awesome, wish it wasn’t overcast where I am last night. I did get to see them in 03 and it was beautiful, had to ask my brother to come out and confirm I wasn’t seeing things.

WTF? the storm turned out to be much stronger than forecasted. The reason why they call it space weather is because just like the terrestrial forecasters, the space forecasters cant get it right either. |

A more benign doomer question, does this increase the risk of skin cancer?
