I would be fine with letting the first 5 be independent nations.

Arizona's median age is 35.9 (younger than the national median age). That's a lot of young grandparents!
Of course, this list doesn't seem to rely on facts to make it's arguments in any state's case. |

Might be interesting to see just how well the liberal states at the top of the list fare without the federal government.
Without having to pay into the feds would they be able to keep enough to set up their own welfare system to keep the FSA from burning the major cities down? What about Medicare and Medicaid? States would have to take that over and support it, or again, deal with riots. And they're not the only state with problems. All the states bordering Mexico are going to have to establish their own border force or risk being over run, even more than they are now. Not to mention aggression between states that don't like each other or over water and food. |

lol didn't even use PPP in the measurements and just goes down hill from there.

" taking into account GDP, GDP per capita, location, likeability, food production, human development index, and history of independence." But somehow in that list they left off buying new 30-round magazines. And all that math is just science and numbers and stuff. View Quote Yeah and how they leave out state debt per capita, natural resources, etc etc. yup just because they used some math and not others they are moar righter. |

Butthurt surplus in here.
At least Michigan dominates the world in production of strawberries, tomatoes and wine grapes. So, there's that, launching them to #38. |
|
So RI would do ok as a country because they have nice beaches?
Sure, whatever you say. |

These things always strike me as the tip of the pyramid crowing about how little the rest of the blocks matter...

The top 6 states on that list are indeed great places to live if you hate freedom or drive a BMW.

Any poll that ranks the top five most communist states in America as the "most independent" has absolutely zero credibility.
Yes, I understand the criteria. It's still bullshit. |

Yea we're a poor state, but we'd be fine on our own here. Plenty of wildlife and land for food, trees for heat. The electricity we'll have to figure out unless we just drop back a few hundred years . The best part would be all the lazy fsa would move away, since they'd have to actually work to live. maybe partner up with VT NH for trades ect.
Winter would suck. |

devastatingly landlocked yet have the Mississippi on the right and Missouri river on the left. fucking dumbasses

That is some of the biggest loads of horse shit I've seen in a long time.

We knew this country was fucked. California at the top of a bogus list solidifies it.
|

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I'm confident I can subsist quite a while, and comfortably, on bourbon and chicken. Also, list is dumb.
|

As independent nations....The coastal states would be the most powerful as they would control imports/exports. Clearly they would need a major cultural/ideological turn around or they would get subjugated by the land locked states.

this reads like a moderately liberal college freshman's doodlings while trying to stay awake in "gender rights" class.

HAHAHA!.. NY it's own country. Yeah, sure we will be.
We have a negative power creation rate. We have little international trade outside of Wall Street and NYC tourism. We have operated in the red for how long now? Infrastructure is circa 1930's. Yeah sure, it's own country. |

Might be interesting to see just how well the liberal states at the top of the list fare without the federal government. View Quote I know facts and shit ... but both California and New York are big donor states with the Federal government taxing them more than they return. Last time I looked CA was due 21% and that's a lot of bucks coming from a state whose population is bigger than the 22 least populous states combined. States like New Mexico benefit with $2 spent by the federal government on them for every one taken in taxes. Like it or not CA's huge industrial and agricultural businesses pay massive federal taxes. |

Texas would rapidly devolve into a poor, corrupt third-world nation, run with an iron hand by conservative oil billionaires and right-wing Christians. The wealthy would allow millions of illegal workers to come in and displace Texans (cheap wages). Health care? Worker Safety? Education? Investment in public works? President-for-Life Rafael Teodoro "Ted" Cruz doesn't care! View Quote Well if nothing else, this is a great thread just for outing this butthurt leftist. |

11. VirginiaIndependence Grade: B+
More presidents have been born in Virginia than any other state in the nation, this place breeds freedom. View Quote but attracts liberal northerners |

I honestly stopped taking it serious at "North Dakota's low GDP".
California...the most debt ridden state...is somehow A+++ is if went completely independent...yeah ok. Was this written by a high schooler or something? |

California A+++? Total BS, California is BROKE, operating in the hole, plus they have retirement agreements that will prevent them from ever becoming solvent, the state is a joke now financially, and its getting worse. They are going to have to invalidate all their state pension agreements since they don't have any money to pay them.
Whoever made this list up is so ridiculously biased it doesn't mean a thing. |

Yea...no agenda at all with this article. No kidding, so dumb it's funny. As there's no agenda with the "my tribe is better than your tribe" posts that are a meme here. Most people have nothing to be proud of themselves to they latch onto their local professional sports entertainment company or even their geo-political location to invest themselves in. I'm personally not worth a shit but how about them damn football/baseball/hockey/basketball players who work near-by! Your team didn't do so well this year well that makes you a gay tranny skinny pants wearing hipster. I've never done really anything to be proud of but how about that state my mother's vajayjay dropped me in? Oh, you're not living in the same geo-political boundary as me ... fuck you then ass wipe. It's a solid meme that has been here since day one. I really don't identify that strongly with the local tribe having moved from region-to-region so much. Shrug. I'm more interested in how independent I am rather than my state. I'm more concerned about my own income and production rather than that of the state. I'm proud of my own personal accomplishments than those of the folks who live in the same state as I do ... to do otherwise puzzles me and strikes me as very strange. Yea tribe! |
