What do the different color vests/shirts signify?

I recall reading about it somewhere, but forgot what what they meant, designated.

And in before guy getting sucked into jet intake video.

Different jobs. Purple for fuel guys, yellow for directors, red for ordies, etc. everyone has face coverings so in order to know what you need, look for colors.

Is there something special or significant about that particular Tomcat ('200' with the Jolly Rodger on the tail) ?

Seems like a lot of scale model manufacturers uses that example... I even have it hanging from my office ceiling.

It does look like a nice job, but then I notice the calm seas, not too cold or hot, no
rain or snow. It has to get frigid up on the deck when it is cold. Why did the guy
stop the launch on the 1st clip (about half way through)? Something wrong near
the tail?

1200 IIRC.  The loudest area was right below and forward of the arresting cables in the trap room.  Whenever an aircraft caught the arresting gear, the loudest noise you ever heard was - huge BANG and then the hydraulic drums spooling out.

I worked the flight deck from 92-93 on the Nimitz.  I was a hated brown shirt and eventually made it through senior plane captain on F14s.

Trouble Shooter and what looks like a trainee (inboard). There is another trouble shooter on the far / port side giving the thumbs up in the video

Trouble shooters are the final checkers at the cats. They work in pairs starting at the nose and giving the plane one last look over, working aft and finishing at the tail hook.

Safety tech troubleshooter and trainee it appears.

Final flight surface checks and airframe checks after power up directly before releasing the cat.

The one guy is too far inboard, especially for the EA-6 (B in this case) airframe with its nozzle direction that’s notorious for taking you out at the feet when they make a quick turn on the deck and spool up.

Also, they’re not holding onto their pad eyes good enough.

It depends upon the type of plane and the added weight. If you look at Whamo's first picture you can see a green shirt holding up the weight board. He's letting everyone know how much the plane weighs so they can calculate the correct "shot".

The safety guys back there, is it unique to launching the EA6B?

I'd occasionally go skate off up to vulture's row and I didn't remember them doing the same thing with Tomcats or Hornets.

Those checkers would be Air Wing and not Ship's company right?

I was the guy in the green shirt standing in front of the helo on launch and recovery.  It was a pretty cool job.  Especially with NODs.  It's a little unnerving having a UH-60 coming towards you in the dark and landing 50 ft in front of you.

It tells the shooters how heavy the aircraft is so they can calculate the shot.

I was a green shirt for three years. V-2 division.  That's why i can't hear shit anymore.

Mostly covered already.  I worked cats and arresting gear, even though i was IC.
Mostly pri-fly, plat, and paddles.  See user name.

(begin sea story) one time, and this ain't no shit i was going down the cat-walk to Paddles, a fucking a-6 taxied out right in front of me.
I dived down, and it got hot, REAL HOT!
The plane stopped, turned, and showed me his ass end. He was just burning the deck.

I felt my face burning so i knew i couldn't stay there.  I ran down the cat walk toward the "round end"  And got out of that shit.

We give athletes passes for their bad behavior into their 30's because they are just kids.  Here are a bunch of 18-22 year olds doing some of the most dangerous work on the planet.  And doing it well.

The shoplifters in China should have been left there.  It would have been a good learning experience for them.

Freeze it at :19 and you will see something that looks like -0- about halfway up on the port side.

That's the ball.

I was a PC for a bit. My first day as a "trainee" on the flight deck landed me in the net.  The JFK during the first Gulf War had zero non skid. In fact we had to fly contractors out to the boat during desert shield because it was so bad.

Wrong.

Each aircraft has a single weight setting. Pilots know to be at or under it. Occasionally that will change based of emergencies.

Launching/landing on the boat is by far the coolest thing I have ever done. I never quite got used to it, and it was always at least a little terrifying, even on a calm day. And none of it would be possible without the guys on the flight deck working their asses off.

I'll try to find some videos and pictures in the personal archives.
