German restaurant in Minneapolis in facing a firestorm of criticism for hosting a private party for diners dressed up in Nazi uniforms, which was held on Martin Luther King Day. The Jan. 20 party drew concern from an unnamed staff member at the Gasthof zur Gemutlichkeit restaurant, who decided to snap several photos of the event. The cellphone images, which show men dressed up in Nazi SS uniforms under four Nazi banners hanging in one of the restaurant’s dining rooms, were anonymously published online this week in the Twin Cities publication City Pages. The staffer was fired Friday after admitting to the restaurant’s owner that he had taken photos of the Nazi-themed dinner. Gasthof’s owner Mario Pierzchalski, who is a native of Poland, said he’s hosted the party--usually held around Christmas--for six years and defended the event. He said those who attended were “very peaceful people” and “just actors,” some of whom were not dressed like Nazis, but as Italian soldiers and one as an American soldier http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2014/03/19/owner-midwestern-restaurant-defends-nazi-themed-dinner-party/ |

Jon Boorom, a member of WWII Historical Re-enactment Society Inc., says he was at the event depicted in the photos, which he described as "a Star Trek convention but for WWII enthusiasts." View Quote |

I wonder why the fascination with all things Nazi?
People never do these kind of things in Stalin's memory. (I should refer to him as "Uncle Joe") |

LoLz at the person in the wheelchair wearing what looks like a Nazi uniform.

I bet people would have seizures and heart attacks if they ever attended a WW2 reenactment.

It is impossible to form an opinion about that event without personally interviewing the participants. This country simply isn't capable of discussing such matters without resorting to histrionics either way.

Holy free market Batman! I never would have guessed that such a thing would actually attract a crowd, but it's his property.

So what. When they start hassling Jews, then you can give a shit.

As a German born I believe this is kind of lame. My thoughts are this is America we have a 1st Amendment and these people have the freedom to do this no matter how dumb I think it is. Who cares no one was hurt other than the militant butt hurt people who disagree with the 1st Amend. I wore my grandfathers SS uniform to a Halloween party once and everyone thought it was cool because it was a piece of history not the symbolism of the nazi's. In all honesty I hate what the nazi's did to Germany and to the rest of the world and I hate hitler most of all. But this who gives a shit bunch of people acting.

Yes, I'd like the Fuehrerburger and a side order of Grossdeutschland fries, and I'll have the Endloesung hot fudge sundae for dessert.

Looks like fun.
Y'all need to lighten up. It doesn't say they were 88'ers. (which, even that would be their right and their business). They're reenactors. You realize that people dress up like Confederates, Indians, Bushi, all kinds of historically oppressive characters. But, for some reason, dress up in a Nazi uniform and people get their panties all bunched up. |

I think that there is a difference between participating in a re-enactment of WWII and attending dinner at a German restaurant dressed as a Nazi. It doesn't really bother me and I certainly don't think they're 88ers, but it is one of the things that makes you go "Wow, what a titanically bad business decision." The American left is utterly fascinated with communism, but oddly despises naziism. Probably has to do with them successfully duping the American public into believing nazis were a right wing group (even though they were the national socialist party). And "Uncle Joe's" body count rivals or surpasses what Hitler pulled off. |
