Still holding out myself. My house has a huge amount of thermal mass [older house built in the 50's] so it takes a long time to heat up. However, it's been pretty warm and it'll stay there for the next week or so hovering around 90f so the time is coming soon where I'll need to kick it on. Still 66f inside so it's a nice transition walking inside after being in the heat. Warmish nights are what kill me, if it drops to the high 50's then I could likely never run my air all summer, however, get a couple high 60 or low 70f nights and I can't pull the temps down enough to combat the day time heat.

Duh! Well,, yeah. On days when it has been near 90 degrees. Of course, I run the heat in the early morning and the air conditioner in the afternoon.
It's been kicking on in the afternoon/early evenings. It's on automagic.
Yes of course I have. Mine automatically heats/cools as needed.

Went straight from heat to ac to heat to ac a couple times.
A/C been set on 72 for a month and a half. But my power bill is less than $100 a year. |

It’s southeast coastal plain Texas yes we probably ran it on Jan 1st.
We have moderate weather sometimes for several weeks and we crank it down to pull the moisture out. |
We had a couple 80 degree days that I had to install the window units for. I have a 6m old and his room is small and in full sun so it gets very hot.
Its only been 90 a few times in the past 3 weeks -------------------- usually 60 - 85... |

I never understood people that choose to be uncomfortable in their own homes to save a few $$$
Isn't there studies that show it is actually cheaper to keep your hvac system on and running vs shutting it off and causing huge changes in temperature? |
Took the covers off and cleaned the fins so it will let the air blow all of the heat out, new filter. Been running for a couple of months.

View Quote It's at 65f right now in my house, that is VERY comfortable to me. The highest it has gotten so far is 68f during the day. That is also VERY comfortable to me. Tomorrow the GD utility goes to 150% pricing from 2pm to 7pm to F over their residential customers due to their abject failure to build actual reliable new electric generation and the state shares in that blame because of ''green energy bullshit like wind and solar'' they pushed. It really F's over seniors who have no choice to kick the A/C on, especially in trailers or modular housing. I am VERY smart in how I manage temps and still remain comfortable. Yes it takes a bit of planning and looking at day/night/temps and humidity but I save a lot of coin doing so and seldom ever hit 70f in my house. |

View Quote This. My brother is a multimillionaire and his house is a sweat box in the warm months and freezing in the Winter. And he lives in the South. No idea how he doesn't get mold. I have been running my AC for months. In Michigan. Sometimes heat and AC in the same day, with the window open for part of that same day, sometimes during heat, sometimes during AC, sometimes neither. Our other house is in the South. I'm there this week. We often switch right from heat to AC and back this time of year. Be comfortable. If you legit don't have the money, I get it. Do what you have to do. But a lot of people (here more than anywhere else I talk to people) seem to take some kind of perverse, Depression baby, Shanty Irish pride in doing stupid shit like that. |

Southeastern PA here, A/C hasn't been on yet. House stays comfortable enough with daytime highs of 82ish and below. Friday will probably be the day I turn it on with a forecast temp of 93 here.
Since around March I reckon. WFH, keep day temp at 77-78, night 75-76 depending on humidity and how I feel.

13 year old condenser finally gave up the ghost 3 weeks ago, so not recently. New system is getting out in today though.
We had been running it since February |

Quoted: Tomorrow might be the first day in NH. View Quote Yeah, I've been hoping to hold off longer since I want to put in a mini split, but it might just be window shakers this year. This will be the first summer in the house I bought, and it's old, so with window shakers should be able to figure out if my manual j was accurate since I have a 5000, a u-shaped 8,000 and an old 10,000 so I can see if my 12,000 calculation is correct or if I need 18000 btu to cool the whole place. It's just annoying to have to think about ac already since I just shut off the boiler on Saturday. |
I have not turned mine on yet but probably will soon. This house was built before a/c was a thing so it cools pretty well.

3 miles from Lake Superior.
Yes, we opened the windows, and even turned on a fan the last couple days. |
Yesterday was the first time. Wife and kid were going to be gone most of the day and was afraid the dog would get too hot.
In Texas it runs almost year round. Including several days in the winter months.
There are a couple days in February when it doesn't run....other than that...on all the time.
It's been un seasonably cool here the last 2 weeks, been great.
I think we have only run the AC at home about 10 days total so far this year in South Georgia. |
It's on now, 0723 in the morning.
We've had to use the AC, off and on, since early March. We've already had a bunch of days with the real feelz into the 90s. |
We just fired up our 34 yo unit on Monday for the first time since probably September. She clattered right to life
Ive had to turn it on the past few nights as its boiling in the upstairs.
Keeping the windows open only moves so much air once its in the 80s. |
Of course. And I'll be closing the windows and turning it back on about 9am. Mornings in the 60s that we've been getting are pretty unusual for end of May.
No. The last couple days of peaking at 90º outside with 30% humidity, and it hasn't gotten above 76º inside.
We've been running it here and there the last month. There have been some days where it go hot outside so we bring it down a bit to be comfortable at night. For some reason my daughter's room gets really hot in the evening so I run the AC to get her room down some.
