usually around 1000kw/h.Electric is around $ .12/kwh. After taxes, service fees, etc, the bill usually is around $140. This is for a 2 story farmhouse, barn, water pump, etc.

Interesting subject to me...(I work in a super-evil coal burning power plant)...if you think you are paying a lot now, just wait until the new EPA regs start. It will make a lot of plants too expensive to run,so less megawatts available=higher megawatt price.By the time people realize what being "green" is gonna cost them, twill be too late to reverse course. As I like to say at work....once these costs hit, people would not care if we were shoveling baby seals into the furnace....but once these plants close it is done.
BTW bill was 57.00 this month for electricity in an 1100 sq. foot ranch house. 702 KWH usage.

What's your output?  I work at an 80 MW relatively "clean" NG plant.  Cap and Trade would probably be the best thing that ever happened to us... for a while.  After they kill coal, we'll be next.

Capable of 162 MW...we are a pretty small Municipal plant....and lately we are only running at 52 MW about half the time. Never thought I would see the day when power sales are so low.

Our home is new, triple pane windows, great insulation, etc. We bought all energy star everything, and CFL's in almost all the lights. My Wife loves everything in and on, I am a cheap fucker who turns anything Im not using off.

Last months bill was 492Kw for $51.19.

Average daily use was just under 17Kw per day. That number peaked in Feb to 20 Kw per day.

I typically peak around 1200kWh in the summer, 1500kWh in the winter, and go as low as 400-600kWh for a couple months in the spring and fall when I don't need much heat or a/c.  So my electric bill can be anywhere from $50-250.

Last months bill was $10.92.

I don't know how Skibane does it, but several decades back people managed to make do with $00.00 power bills.  For centuries before that too

However, I don't want those good ol' days to return

Surprising though, what you can put up with if there is airflow.  I lived in an un-airconditioned house for years just using fans, with a nice shower before bed.  Cool off the core temp, and have some outlet for evaporative cooling, and you're GTG.  At the time I had no A/C in the car either....but work was nice and climate controlled.

^^^THIS.^^^ (Well, that and living in roughly  the same square footage as your average 2-car garage! )

Being able to draw in outside air is a HUGE energy-saver. Even with the current South Texas weather, the outdoor air temperature is quite comfortable for most of the night, and well into mid-morning. A window fan (or whole-house fan) is all it takes to pull that air indoors, displacing the hot air already inside.

I have one fan that draws outside air and blows it directly across my bed - It runs on low speed all night, and keeps temperatures very comfortable. According my Kill-A-Watt meter, it consumes around 20 watts. I only use the A/C occasionally, and only during the hottest part of the afternoon  - The rest of the time, fans work very well.

Dude!  Check your dryer vent from the wall to the vent to make sure it is clean and unrestricted.  Also check the exhaust system on the dryer itself to make sure it's clean too, and make sure the vent tube that connects the dryer to the wall vent is not getting restricted/bent all to hell/crushed between the dryer and the wall.  There is no reason you should have to run your dryer that much!  Not just to reduce your electric bill, but to prevent a fire...

3000 sq/ft house in Texas.  AC at 74 in the summer, gas heat at 68 in winter.  Pool.  Lots of windows, but most have low-e film on them.

I do fixed-rate contracts, 2 years at a time.  June 2008-May 2010 was at 13.3 cents per kw/hr, and the new rate that just started is 11.6 cents per kw/hr.

Just looked at my current bill... 4212 KW for about $500.  The first 1000KW is lower than the remaining amount.  I ahve a 2500 sq ft house and two outbuildings with window units.  My sister-in-law washes clothes every day, so the dryer runs a lot, but I think my main problem is an A/C unit (package unit) that is a little underpowered.  I had added on to my house but have not increased the capacity on the A/C.

Air conditioning.  The average high last year for my July-August billing period was 98deg and the year before was 100deg.

My bill is fairly low compared to most people I know, but I am single so I don't have kids opening and closing doors all day long or running 3 tv's and 2 computers which create heat, I have a fairly small house (1400sqft) with few windows, some tree shade which isn't always common, I usually cook on the grill, and I keep the a/c set at 77 when I'm home and 80 during the day.
