Page 2 says it's the second most solemn day of the year for me, after Pearl Harbor Day.

Not a pussy at all. I cry seeing those pictures. It puts perspective on life and loving the ones you have that much more.

No, it's a necessary reminder.
I'm driving across the state to help my aging parents visit our family's grave sites. Among those is a marker for a man whose remains are still overseas. |

I would think poorly of anyone who didn't get at least a little moved but that photo.

Your not one OP. Pictures like that will make me tear up as well.
All everyone seems to do is get drunk and party on Memorial Day weekend without any regard as to why the day even exists. I'm not saying to sit around and have a cry fest but at least take the time to acknowledge why your able to kick back and drink a cold one. |

Thanks for the reminders, guys.
We shouldnt need them, but Im glad they are posted. It just slowed my roll, stressing on guests, car problems, past due bills....those guys dont get to worry about that shit any more...i wish they were still with us to deal with the trivial tnings in our lives. |

You have to move on, it is not healthy to camp out on a grave. We don't know how long ago he was KIA..but you must work thru the 5 steps of loss, Elizabeth Kubler Ross is an excellent author on the subject. By seeing the baby is under a year, I guess she is still early in the grieving stage. When u see this 5 yrs down the road, you like the attn it brings and get a kick out of seeing yourself on FB with people crying over it.Sad and harsh , but true. Or maybe, just maybe, it was a love that comes only once in a lifetime that was cut short tragically? Sometimes you find something you know can never be replaced. I mean really, you're calling anyone that does that after some shrink's predefined "grieving period" an attention whore? On is site, in this thread, on this weekend? Really? |

I did it pre GWOT so I never had to present the flag to a young spouse or child, thank God. |

I'll be cracking open several cervesas this weekend. Most for me. Some for my friends. RIP brothers. I miss you.
ETA - One beer will be a Budweiser for E4 Blaine J Shepherd. Even after 47 years, my dad still thinks about you every day. Thank you for keeping him safe. |

I think this was the first of these that I saw, and it's the one my mind always goes back to. It hit me hard then, it still does now. My mom is buried in a veteran's cemetery (my dad is a Vietnam vet). I have seen that scene in person, it is gut wrenching. |
