I was teenaged and already jaded when MTV came out. The first year was Ok, then the mafia bought it and down the tubes it went.

Quoted: ... you had an AWESOME childhood. Joan Jett - Crimson & Clover Missing Persons - Destination Unknown The Clash - Rock the Casbah Men At Work - Down Under The Bangles - Walk Like an Egyptian The Go-Go's - Head Over Heels NENA | 99 Red Balloons Tiffany - I Think We're Alone Now Talking Heads - Burning Down the House View Quote To this day it's Pavlovian to switch the channel when I hear the songs mentioned. (except Talking Heads and Devo, but you have to hunt for those) Luckily so many of the artificial MTV "hits" and Stars are no longer with us. Dexy's Midnight Runners Men Without Hats Men At Work Mike and The Mechanics It was great but that's it's own death sentence. The suits saw there was big bucks untapped and there it goes. You knew it was the end when that pompous ass Kurt Loder appeared. It did have us scrambling pre internet for August 1978 Playboy's Girls of The Office featuring a brunette Nina Blackwood. |

Quoted: I still remember the first time I watched. We didn't have cable, but I went over to someone else's house who did and walked in to see this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAZQaYKZMTI It was amazing. View Quote Wow! This is my exact story except it was a family reunion at my Grandparent’s house. Some of my cousins were in the back den watching MTV. “White Wedding” was the first video I ever saw. @scuba_steve |

I was on alert (SAC nuke alert) when MTV first came on. At least one tv in the alert facility was always tuned to MTV. We called it ‘watching the radio’. This was in the day of the cable remote being a box with switches for each channel (25 of them!) connected to the tv by a long cord.

We used to watch Friday Night Videos on NBC, but then MTV made it a whole channel before they got fucking retarded and stopped playing videos. Quoted: Lol...that was the big sales pitch to go to cable! That didn't last too long. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: No commercials Lol...that was the big sales pitch to go to cable! That didn't last too long. That's the only thing keeping me subscribed to Sirius. They actually adhered to that. Yea, they have a few promo spots but for the most part it's just content. They seem to be the only one who kept the promise. |
