Hard to beat the 3 sisters (beans, corn, squash), with grilled venison, and flat bread.

Its probably delicious but I can't get passed the smell of the people serving it or the food its self.

Anybody care to share some Indian recipe I can make at home with readily available ingredients?

I have tried repeatedly to like Indian food, but have failed miserably.
I'm too old for spicy, and I'm sure the hotter it is the better it tastes. I do like to know what I am eating and have no idea from the menu, so I never know if I will really like it. I know people really go crazy over it, but just never managed that. |

Quoted: Anybody care to share some Indian recipe I can make at home with readily available ingredients? View Quote None of it is hard to make,I mean it’s dirt poor peasant food after all. How home made do you want it? You can buy garam masala and everything yourself or just get some Patak’s sauces or pastes. Tikka masala and biryani is as easy as anything. If you can manage frying doughnuts or chicken wings then pakoras and bhajis are easy. Chutneys are as easy as throwing some mint, coriander, garlic and a couple chiles into a food processor and naan might be the easiest bread ever to make. |

indian food is food alchemy--more than merely the sum of the various spices added. The flavors are unique, not just variations of one another.
i prefer southeast asian on the whole, but indian is really special. |

View Quote Not all Indian food is spicy by any means. Tikka masala or biryani isn’t any spicier than meatloaf. I get the heat in my Indian food from the chutney and moderate it with the raita but don’t make most of it hot at all. |

Not only do a love Indian food, for whatever reason ive always leaned toward the vegetarian dishes. I love Tandoor chicken and lamb...its amazing...but in truth I absolutely love saag paneer, jalfrezi, masala dishes, chana, aloo, gobi, dal....the list goes on. A good plate of biryani and saag kicks ass. Indian is the only kind of food I do this....any other style of food im a meat head. Indian...they actually know how to cook vegetables so they are savory.

Here is the aftermath of our last Indian meal: Butter Chicken, Goat Curry and Palak Paneer. The Palak Paneer didn't impress me, but I had finished a dish of butter chicken, so there's that. When I ate the Palak Paneer the next day, it seemed like one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten. Attached File |

Best part of Indian is the breads and appetizers. Not the plain boring bread, the ones stuffed with different combinations of shredded chicken, lamb, cauliflower, potatoes, garlic, cheeses. A meal all by itself. Meat stuffed flatbread.
Then the best appetizers are the chicken pakoras (baked chicken, then breaded and fried). Or the vegetable pakoras, craggy shredded veggies in a chickpea batter with spices, fried. They should look like this https://myfoodstory.com/vegetable-pakoras-recipe/ https://www.kitchensanctuary.com/chicken-pakora-recipe/ Favorites from my local restaurant: House special bread -Fine flour bread, stuffed with cauliflower, homemade cheese, chicken tikka, garlic and spices. Keenan Naan - Fine flour bread, stuffed with ground lamb, fresh ginger, and cilantro. Chicken Pakora - Chicken fritters dipped in chickpea flour and fried. Vegetable Pakora - Assorted vegetable fritters gently seasoned and deep fried. I order one each of the breads and 2 each of the apps. Makes 2 good meals for me. if you're just going for the sauced main dishes, you're missing out, and those are often the ones that turn people off Indian food. Start with breads and apps as a meal, then beach to the safe choices like Chicken Biryani (like a Chinese fried rice dish). Avoid Indian buffets, boring choices and poor selection. |

Quoted: I order it hot....I generally specify Indian hot not white folk hot, Im obviously not a Indian. The result is 50/50 they either serve me something with no heat thinking im confused or they decide to teach me a lesson and pour it in. Generally I'm happy with the extra hot but about 1 in 10 the first bite tastes like regret and I have to Play cool while my guts smolder. View Quote I went (with my wife) to an Indian restaurant in Paris one time. The waiter spoke in French, so I answered him the same way. After placing the order, I started talking to my wife (in English). The waiter paused, then came back to the table: "Are you English"? "yes, we are" "Ah, so you want me to ask the cook to make this properly?" "Yes, please!" It was very good! --- I was always amused by watching French people in an Indian restaurant ordering something like a Vindaloo, then spending ages selecting a wine to go with it. I was always so tempted to just say "Fuck it!, you are not going to taste it anyway, so just order anything. Or better still do it properly and order a beer". |

There was a little cafe on my college campus that sold the fucking best chicken tikka masala and his sister made samosas once in a while. I ate it several times a week.
Now I'm lucky if I get it once or twice a year. |

I don't know what it is, but I fucking hate Indian curry. Thai curry, all good. Indian food tastes like baby shit to me.

I haven't had much of it, but what I had I liked.
Ten or twenty years ago, my cousin took me to a place on the North Side of Chiraq that had an all you can eat Sunday buffet. It was very good. There are a few places here in NE Ohio. I've never been to any of them. |

Chicken Tikka Masala is boring. Get yourself a nice lamb rogan josh or a mutton curry.
Looks delicious though. I’m a massive fan of Indian food. |
