The Brat and Eagle were a couple of my favorite cars when I was a little kid.

Quoted: I remember looking at them when new. There was some regulation regarding importation that it could NOT be a truck. The rear seats had to be welded in to make it a "passenger car". I did have a Subaru GL coupe. Early subarus tended to dissolve in salt quickly. Those that didn't had leaking head gaskets or burned a lot of oil. I had another one that burned about a quart of oil in 200 miles! View Quote I had a GL coupe too. The thing was rusting apart. And we don't salt the roads here. |

Back in 1984 I knew a guy who owned a Brat. He loved that vehicle, it was great in winters. Then one day he took a turn on a city street and a front wheel fell off. It wasnt a bushing or ball joint failure, rust had destroyed the frame.

I’ve owned an ‘81 Brat, 4 speed manual
It was alot of fun in the mud & snow, in 4 low it really crawled I even used it to pull a friend in a Land Cruiser out who was stuck in snow |

Bi Drive Recreational All Terrain Vehicle.
B.R.A.T. They were cool. |

Jaime Pressly drove one in “ My Name is Earl”. Makes it the ultimate redneck trailer trash car.

I want something closer to the original, something with two doors and T tops. Not everything has to be a crew cab. |

Quoted: They sort of did with the Baja. My grandpap loves his. He's had 3 of them over the years. I would have done terrible terrible things for an STI Baja with some WRC style shit thrown to it. I am honestly thinking of a Santa Cruz when my Baja dies. Jeep wants too much for the Gladiator but I love that too. |

I thought they were cool as a kid. I don't think they were really made all that well (early Subarus seemed to rust away quickly). They still look pretty cool.

View Quote Yeah, but an STI with like....~350 would be way more...fun? Wicked? I just want something I can throw a set of big tires on, a *real* modest lift - and then go pretend to be Ken Block in. |

Quoted: All the 70s/80s mini pickups (Brat, Dodge Rampage, Chevy Luv, Datsun pickup, VW Rabbit pickup) were cool even though almost all of them rotted away into dust. View Quote I ran the wheels off a 78 Datsun, an 85 Nissan and an 89 Toyota. The Toyota's engine started running poorly so i gave it to one of my brothers. He still has the old girl. Body is still in fair shape. My youngest brother has been doing a partial restore on an old 79 Toyoto. He's trying to keep it as stock as possible. I either forgot how small the cabs were on those mini trucks or i got bigger. |

View Quote It needed the rear seats to avoid the chicken tax. It could've been imported without the seats, but then it would have been considered a truck and therefore subject to the tax. |

A buddy and I buried one up to the window ledge in a muddy cornfield. Turns out it wasn't as bad ass as we thought; had to be pulled out by another friend with a Jeep. Still a lot of fun.

Bed length. Same car with only 2 doors would be sweet especially in a turbo trim. A Outback or Ascent with a bed would be cool. Apparently Australia is the only big market that wanted UTE's. Pretty cool. I mean, it's not Vehicross cool, but it's pretty close.

My friends mom had one when I was a kid. We would sit in the back and yell at her to swerve. She would swerve back and forth and we had a blast. She'd probably be arrested for endangering children or some shit if done in current times.

Buddy’s dad had one growing up. Was always a little awkward at red lights staring at the people in the car behind you.

Lots of Subarus and Eagles in Aspen back in the early 80's. 4wd/AWD was a winter necessity.
I drove Subaru Outbacks, and an old Loyale for years. |
|
One of the hottest ladies I have ever known drove one of those in the late nineties. Damn she was fine.
|
|
The Baja also, Subaru always seems to be 4-10 years ahead of the game and except for the Outback. Never gets the big returns. All the new mini (haha) pick-ups good for a run to the mall can basically be traced to the Baja (I know, I know, lets not get picky, modern mini's).

I'd drive one with an LS motor, Lockers and a Ford 9" rear. Some skinny 10ply about 36" tall... Wouldn't even need a turbo to have fun...

Dad had one as a kid. I loved riding in the back of it. The rear seats (in the bed) had these fighter pilot joysticks, was great fun.
