Carolina Whitetail Hunt with a 45-70 Newfoundland Moose Hunting With Marlin 45-70 45-70 vs. Boston Butts! Fun cartridge. Spendy if you don't reload but fun none the less. |

Want!
Definitely next on my list as well as the loading dies for that monster. |

As you're working loads towards max it starts to sound like artillery....

@Dog1
That's beautiful! Are those Cavalry carbines safe to use with the modern hot .45-70 loads? Quoted: If Buds would ever ship it, I have a Sharps Cavalry carbine in 45-70 government coming. https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/9749/prodotti_immagini_immagine_476-1584210.jpg View Quote |

Works fine loaded to 45-70 levels. My Encore pistol is a 50-70, though. I do own a HandiRifle in 45-70; an earlier ejector model. |

Great, now you just another gun in my "WANT" list. Quoted: @Yojimbo Thank you! Yes they are safe for modern loads. I have already been casting bullets for it LOL https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/9749/20200908_152550-1583034.jpg Now if I could just get it in my damn hands! View Quote |

I want a side loading lever action. I'd use it for home defense. I imagine taking a 4570 to plate or soft armor, much less flesh would knock the fight out of someone.

Feeds well, if the rounds are loaded into the mag correctly-all the way back, and centered. Took a couple range sessions to figure that out. Wanted one for years, got bored before a dentist appointment last year and went driving around. Found a gun shop in a back alley and it was on the shelf. $495. |

What’s just as fun shooting 45-70 is reloading 45-70 for $.25/round!
Free lead is best lead! |

Quoted: Yeah I need to start reloading 45-70. I could really go for .25 a round. I could really go for .25 a round. At minimum start collecting scrap lead and of course keep your brass. Even jacketed bullets on the ground. Cut a slot if they are encapsulated in a copper jacket and they will melt in a Lee pot. The copper jacket will float to the top. Of course bullet lead is dirty so you might want to process it first to make clean ingots, your Lee pot will thank you and drip less. If you make a bullet trap before shooting you can collect your lead bullets in the dirt and recast them. Tedious but really helps during ammunition droughts like we’re experiencing now. |

Quoted: @Yojimbo I'm happy to help spend your money lol. I had a pedersoli Sharps rifle back in the early 2000s that I wish I hadn't have sold. It's been bugging me ever since. In the last couple years I've really gotten into 19th century firearms. Reproductions of course for modern smokeless loads, a lot of my interest has been in the Civil War years as well as the Western Plains. I already have a Uberti 1873 Winchester reproduction, as well as a 1873 7th Cavalry Colt SSA, a artillery model and a "bankers" SSA. I've always been fascinated with the US Calvary whether it's Civil War or the Indian Wars. https://www.AR15.Com/media/mediaFiles/9749/117235633_948805278880546_65621628119161-1576027.jpg I had wanted to get a trapdoor Cavalry carbine but they have basically all but disappeared and they are not coming right now from Italy. So for whatever reason and however it happened Bud's Gun Shop manage to get one Chiappa 1863 sharps Cavalry carbine in which is called their new model or the McNelly carbine, set up for 45-70 government. The original was converted from black powder to metallic cartridge in 50-70. So they had this one only one and I placed my order last Thursday and I'm hoping sometime soon I will get shipment notification so I can get out to the range LOL View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: @Dog1 Great, now you just another gun in my "WANT" list. @Yojimbo I'm happy to help spend your money lol. View Quote @firedog51d I had a devil of a time finding it. When I couldn't find it I asked my FFL if he had any connections. All of this took place back in the middle of everybody being locked down because of the Shanghai shivers. Of course during the lockdown everybody begin to panic and they were buying everything they could get their hands on. The gun was located at one of his distributors and they were three weeks behind in shipping guns. I got the last one they had. Three and a half weeks later I finally got it. I haven't seen any more of them for sale. I know that people are having a hard time getting the reproductions from Italy. Taylor's and Company do not have a lot in their inventory right now. The reproduction industry in Italy is still playing catch-up |

I’m hoping to get an elk, deer or hog this year with guide gun.

Quoted: Release the inner Mexican! I prefer a cartridge box that protects the cartriges. View Quote I agree. I just don't get all of the cartridges in slings and on stocks. There's the obvious issue of potentially losing or damaging cartridges, but it also makes the rifle in hand needlessly heavier. It's a dang .45-70. How many rounds do you need to get the job done? Most have tubes that hold at least 4, if not more, plus one in the chamber. Mine is 6+1. And if I want to carry more, a spare box in a pocket/vest/pouch carries better, at least for me. Seems like an Instagram thing. |
