Shit happens more often when you take stupid chances.  I know jack shit about chemistry or explosives, therefore I do not attempt to home concoct high explosive.  Simple concept.  Even if A bite does not kill you from one of those pictured, the antivenin and corresponding treatment will bankrupt you.

I'm about over keeping them myself. A lot of the things in the pictures are gone already, and I'm getting totally out of hots next month.

Now that I'm in my later 20's I'm starting to appreciate the risk a lot more. Not saying it can't be done safely, but there is a lot of discipline required and I'm just not interested in hot keeping enough to put forth all the effort anymore.

Plus the threat of new legislation every year is a constant stressor- like 1000 times worse than gun legislation,

Yeah, unless your insurance doesn't cover it, a vial of CroFab is around $700 to $800 bucks. A "regular" bite by a rattler or cottenmouth requres around 6-10 vials, if it's C.Helleri that got you it can be up to 20 vials of antivenin.

The whole treatment starts at $50K and can go up to $110K and more, plus amputation of fingers/limbs if necessary.

No. In my experience, the only ones that seem to have a bad rep for good reason are the Biak Island locale GTP's, they are somewhat bitey. I've never been bitten by the ones I posted and I've had them since they were hatchlings.

That's actually really good to know.  I've wanted a GTP badly for some time - they're beautiful snakes.  I'm new to this whole snake keeper role, though, so that's a ways off.  I understand they're pretty difficult to keep.

AFAIK the only places that will have antivenin for those kind of snakes are zoos (optimistic) and I think they have an exotic antivenin service of some sort in Miami through the Fire Department/EMS........or at least used to.

Antivenin for those snakes would likely run thousands per vial if they are available.  A cottonmouth is a necrotic bee sting compared to some of those shown.
