A lot of the things in the pictures are gone already, and I'm getting totally out of hots next month. Now that I'm in my later 20's I'm starting to appreciate the risk a lot more. Not saying it can't be done safely, but there is a lot of discipline required and I'm just not interested in hot keeping enough to put forth all the effort anymore. Plus the threat of new legislation every year is a constant stressor- like 1000 times worse than gun legislation, |

Yeah, unless your insurance doesn't cover it, a vial of CroFab is around $700 to $800 bucks. A "regular" bite by a rattler or cottenmouth requres around 6-10 vials, if it's C.Helleri that got you it can be up to 20 vials of antivenin. The whole treatment starts at $50K and can go up to $110K and more, plus amputation of fingers/limbs if necessary. That's why I have corn snakes... |

some of my pets that keep me. <snip> God DAMN!! I fucking love GTPs. Are they as temperamental as their reputation implies? No. In my experience, the only ones that seem to have a bad rep for good reason are the Biak Island locale GTP's, they are somewhat bitey. I've never been bitten by the ones I posted and I've had them since they were hatchlings. That's actually really good to know. I've wanted a GTP badly for some time - they're beautiful snakes. I'm new to this whole snake keeper role, though, so that's a ways off. I understand they're pretty difficult to keep. |

One of my aunts kept some very unusual pets, particularly for the era (1950s). She had a bush baby and another small monkey. I think her husband brought them back from colonial Africa. Unfortunately no photos that I'm aware of.

AFAIK the only places that will have antivenin for those kind of snakes are zoos (optimistic) and I think they have an exotic antivenin service of some sort in Miami through the Fire Department/EMS........or at least used to. Antivenin for those snakes would likely run thousands per vial if they are available. A cottonmouth is a necrotic bee sting compared to some of those shown. |

When the owner would come out, they would stop and act like nothing was going on...evil bastards. When I got a little older I punched one of them as it came to chase me. It never chased me again. |

I knew someone was going to ruin it by posting hots. I was waiting for the hots to show up, It's not a thread about exotics without Hots in it Shitty part is that hots are not "pets" no matter how you roll the dice. But I can totally see where you are coming from. Didn't mean to be a downer, but after a bad experience, you can totally sign me up as the Diane Feinstein of Hot snakes in private residences. Well, the ban nannies got their way in WA, so you don't have to live your life in fear. |

Shouldn't be able to own exotic pets just like PittBulls.
Monkeys rip your face off and should be banned. |
