Convair 880. Still holds the absolute speed record across the US for airliners.

How about some Italian love? Macchi C.205, performance was on par with the P-40.

Only problem is getting it out of the shop.

the is actually IMO the most aesthetically pleasing WW2 fighter... Macchi C.202 Folgore... it's aggressive and elegant... got that short ass/long hood profile kinda like a Corsair or air racer.. prolly has something to do with those dead sexy Italian desert camo paint jobs too..

it was a formidable fighter.

That was going to be my contribution.

Nothing is as graceful in the sky. Notching sounds like it ( the howl) to see one take off in a short space and turn seeing the full shape is awesome

The L1011 has much cleaner lines, and is just prettier, IMO.  I got to fly from Dallas to Frankfurt and back in an L1011, it was a very nice ride.

Beautiful airplane—from a more elegant time.

I was F/E on it and (unless it was #11007 which was burned up by the IAM in BOS during a labor dispute) crewed the one pictured a few times.

Dumb question, but any reason why they start the same side engines as opposed to counter side each startup?
View Quote
@itstock

Engines are numbered 1-2 then 3-4 going from left to right.   In normal start up and shut down, you go 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 ...

Also, Ground Crew equipment for starts.  Sometimes a battery cart or other starting needed equipment.  Also usually a fire cart with extinguishers nearby for engine starts.

Keeps from having to ground equipment from L side to all the way over to R side then to back to L side then back over to R side.

I will second the Skyraider.  But to understand you had to be there.  They have a sound unlike any other prop driven aircraft ever.  Makes one sort of warm and fuzzy just thinking about it.
