My expectations for tonight's game were low, but holy hell.
The defense gave up .31 EPA/play. The offense had another 4 turnover game, and they are up to 11 on the season. The offense is fixable. The defense is not. |

Hopefully they can get their shit together soon because they play the Redskins next and the Skins are the Cowboys' biggest competition for the NFC East. I guess. I'm not sure. Based on what's known right now, the biggest concern would be Thuney's hand. I'm assuming Kelce and Hill can play through or quickly recover from their injuries. CEH hasn't shown that he can do anything that Williams and McKinnon can't. But Thuney... The O-line rebuild has been the ONE good thing about this season so far for KC. If they lose him, it's bad news. |

Being a career backup has to the best job in the NFL. Low physical risk, and some of these dudes have made 10's of millions barely playing a real snap outside of garbage time. I don't fault them one tiny bit for taking that job.

I think tonight was really the first time where announcer bias really struck me. I like Al and Chris in general but their calling in the 2nd half was hot garbage. The refs were very loose all game. Things were chippy and physical all night and they weren't calling pass interference or personal fouls. Then late in the game Al chimed in that they refs were calling "everything" and on the roughing the passer call on Allen, Chris was acting like it was a total none call. The bias towards the Chiefs was obvious.

To be honest I don’t watch many chiefs games. That last three I watched was the SB, Ravens, and Bills last night.
The SB and Bills games looked very similar. The chiefs simply refused to take what the defense was giving them and kept trying for the big plays. Is this on Mahomes or Reid? |

Quoted: Oh, the Bills defense is legit. Last night I saw way too many drops by supposed professional receivers. Hard enough to win without those mistakes. Nothing against the Bills D! View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: You guys are right to joke about this, but... it's working, and it's working reliably. Oh, the Bills defense is legit. Last night I saw way too many drops by supposed professional receivers. Hard enough to win without those mistakes. Nothing against the Bills D! It's not just the Bills. In a lot of ways, this goes back to the Week 12 game against the Bucs last season. In the first half, the Chiefs absolutely scorched the Bucs D, and the score was 20-7. After half time, the Bucs came out in Cover 2, and the Chiefs offense collapsed only scoring 7 more points. The final score of that game was 27-24. Since then, when opposing teams have had the discipline to keep two high and not blitz, the Chiefs offense has sputtered. Much of their trouble has been self-inflicted, but that's arguably part of the strategy. The Chiefs need to find a way to beat that scheme. |

The two safeties prevent home run plays, and by only sending four rushers, you're left with five guys in coverage at the second level. This is a double whammy for the Chiefs. They pay the bills with home run plays, and when you force them to march down the field on 10+ play drives, you're burning up more clock reducing the number of possessions. The Chiefs are built for those home run plays. They have a cast of tiny but fast WRs. Those WRs are scary streaking down the field, but they're not effective competing against bigger defenders at the second level. The only guy they have that can play well there is Kelce, and he's getting bracketed and straight up mugged more often than not. And to be clear, they're trying to work those short plays: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FBbOD9cXMAIxW7g?format=jpg&name=900x900 They don't have the personnel for it, and it's not working. And the run game isn't an option, either. Also, when you force those 10+ play drives, you're creating more opportunities for mistakes and turnovers. So... what are defenses giving them? What are they supposed to do? View Quote Hey everyone the Chiefs have been dominating the league for two years with huge shot plays, maybe we should take those away from them... So, is this on Mahomes for the turnovers or on Reid for not adjusting the game plan? |

So, is this on Mahomes for the turnovers or on Reid for not adjusting the game plan? Mahomes has certainly earned his fair share of the blame for turnovers, but there's plenty to go around. I think Tyreek is responsible for something like two ints and a fumble. CEH has fumbled twice. Pringle has fumbled twice. I think Hardman and Kemp have both tipped passes. I'm not sure what game plan adjustments can be made. I would think the short game should be the answer, but it's not working. I think the problem is part personnel and part execution. |
