Effing squirrels or rodents chewed through my transmission wiring harness a few years back. $850 to repair. Thankfully, insurance covered it minus my deductible.

China Christmas light manufacturer conspiracy.
Insulation additive that tastes like squirrel food. ... and suddenly last minute sales of replacement Christmas lights skyrocketed! |
Let me be the very first to say a squirrel is chewing through the wire. Or maybe a rat. But at least I'm first.
I am going to buy several rat traps and see how they work on squirrels

Set a squirrel trap like this one Attached File

I’ve had rabbits cut light wires. Yours is either a squirrel or pissed off neighbor.

Quoted: Ok, so it's probably a squirrel. I put up the same lights every year. I wonder why they are a problem this year? View Quote Retarded squirrel thinks it’s food this gets posted every year but it seems nobody remembers. They cut the bulbs and do what squirrels do they hide them away for later |

Quoted: It's probably squirrels. Theyre hitting lights all over the country for some reason. Https://www.ozarksfirst.com/local-news/squirrel-scrooges-sabotage-christmas-display-by-chewing-through-light-cords/amp/ View Quote Someone hasn't compared the cuts on the wires |

In a tree or close to the ground?
If close to the ground, any rabbit prints? |
It happened to me twice already this year. Rabbits, squirrels or rats, we've got them all. I just stripped the wires, twisted them together and put a wire nut on the splice with some white electrical tape and they work good as new. Oh, also put some poison bait out for the little asshole.
When you find whatever is doing this, shoot it
Also put out a trap in case it’s a squirrel |

Guessing the OP might just be a little paranoid 'cause he's been fucking some of his neighbors' old ladies. Don't worry, OP...paybacks are hell, but this ain't it yet.
The fucking squirrels ruined about $300 of lights in my backyard. I was living in Canada at the time so shooting the bastards was not an option.
I remember when I lived on Fort Lee, VA wondering WTF was cutting my lights. Squirrels then, squirrels now.
OP if you leave your lights on all night long you probably deserve to get them cut.
Some automotive wiring uses soybean based insulation, I wouldn't be surprised to find out those lights do as well.

1. Wake before dawn
2. Pour a jigger of bourbon in your coffee 3. Sit outside in a lawn chair bundled up with your coffee 4. Shoot squirrels in dome with .22 or full-choked shotgun 5. Enjoy squirrel stew and intact wires later in the evening |

My neighbor lady feeds the local squirrels, my black lab and I stack bodies from the bedroom window with a .22lr suppressed with subsonics... sorry, not fucking sorry Linda!
Haven't been able to string Christmas lights in years thanks to the fluff rat plague. These god damn things seem to breed like feral hogs. |
Is it a modest display or one of those over the top Griswold Christmas light displays?
Load up a spray bottle with hot sauce. Spray the wiring and lights.
We’ve had a run of teenagers in our neighborhood doing this. Probably the same useless shitheads that painted F15 and other anti police sentiments back when the George Floyd shit hit

Quoted: Happened to me this past week, and a neighbor earlier in the week. Probably dumb kids daring each other or some really Scroogey people. But what can you do? I just fixed mine and will keep doing so, not going to let some grinch ruin the Christmas spirit. View Quote Remember the lights that if one went out they all went out? We as kids used to go around the neighborhood and take a bulb from a strand here and there. |
