I didnt go through all 5 pages.  Anybody mention Sonic 2 and 3 yet?  Sonic 2 has some funky fat base lines.  Sonic 3 soundtrack was cowritten by the king of pop himself.

And pretty much any time victor wooten picks up a bass, amazing sounds come out of the thing.  His brother was the same with a sax.  Even playing 2 saxes at the same time.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Full Soundtrack

Ice Cap Zone (Act 1) - Sonic the Hedgehog 3 [OST]

Act 2 Boss - Sonic the Hedgehog 3 [OST]

I forgot about this song. In music theory there are scales and old ancient Greek scales called modes. Some of them, especially the Phrygian mode is used in heavy metal guitar solos a lot.

There is one mode that isn't used at all, because it's so weird and atonal and you can't really make pop music from it. Bjork intentionally used this mode in this song, it's very bass-heavy and I think it's cool as hell

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0rxII_-GNk

I remember listening to this song for the first time and thinking there was something very strange about it.

Pretty much all the songs in this thread, even the ones I don’t particularly care for, I can listen to and understand why they’d be basslines that someone might think are good…

Except this one.

It’s totally mundane.

Ok, I get that a female is playing, which (to some) means it’s automatically worthwhile, but seriously - from a music standpoint, what sets this apart from a zillion other pop songs’ basslines?

Wonderful bass part but doesn't count.

Bakithi's bass part (the second half) is actually the first part played in reverse by the engineer.

It was a bitch to try to learn when I thought he played it that way.

Holy shit, I completely forgot about Carol Kaye!

For those who don't know, she was the primary bassist for The Wrecking Crew studio musicians and is the most recorded bassist of all time.

She came up with the bass line for this song:
