I'm mostly a Streamlight protac whore.
For handhelds anyway.

Protacs:
2x 2AA
3x 1L/1AA
2L-X
HL-X
HL5-X

The HL5-X is the most impressive, but also basically a house/car light.

Those are decent, but I'm really spoiled on output.

I bought one of those first, but can't reach it with my trigger finger, so for me it's basically worthless as a pistol light.

Not a fan of rechargeable flashlights, for the most part.  I wanna be able to get it working again in seconds if the batteries die.  I do have some rechargeable ones, but most take regular batteries.  I have several of those 6v SLA 55w halogen spotlights.  Replaced the batteries in a few of them with some I got on clearance at WM.  At the end of hunting season, WM usually throws all their trail cam stuff on clearance, and that usually includes SLA batteries.

I’ve read about that as an issue with people.  It’s never been a problem for me but honestly my mechanics are probably bad and I could be doing something wrong.

The usb micro rechargable 18650s from Streamlight are pretty awesome; and all of their 18650 lights (that I have anyway) will also run on CR123As.
The Olight 18650 and 16350 lights will also run on CR123As and the tailcap magnetic charging is super convenient.

Ah, see now that's something I'd like.  The option to use other batteries just in case.  I also have LiIon 18500 cells that were on clearance at WM 4 for $1.  And a couple chargers for them.

Yea, the lithium cells are good.  Part of the reason they're so expensive, other than the battery tech, is the voltage regulator and protection circuitry in every battery.

I usually stock mostly alkaline.  I don't have as much as I do ammo, but I have quite a bit.  I do still have duracells, because I sent back 100 AAA that I got from Woot years ago, that were leaking in the box.  They sent me like $100 in coupons, so, well, I'm gonna take them up on it.  But, I'll keep an eye on what I use them in.  I have energizers, eveready alkaline, some Kodak, and Rayovac.  I think rayovac are trying to step up their game a bit, while still being cheaper than others.

I'm considering getting some of the 2 or 3 AA to D-Cell adapters, too.  Sure, it'd be expensive to fill a 2, 3, 4, 6-D flashlight with 3x the amount of Lithium AA's, but it would last fucking forever and be a lot lighter.
