View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: I never personally understood why anyone would pick a Miata after I was pricing a daily driver sports car out a decade or so ago and you could (then at least) get a good 350z cheaper than a similar condition Miata. Yeah the 350z is heavier but that weight was getting you significantly better looks, brakes, horsepower, and suspension while also having 48/51 weight distribution There is a sweet spot in the lower horsepower range where you can be foot on the floor banging gears, wringing the cars neck and still be within road limits, its entertaining. It's the rental car mentality, if it has four wheels It's going to have more flight time than a B-52 kind of car. If you fit, you kind of go Mr.Toad and find roads that sling you back and forth going from point to point just for the thrill of it. |

All of the '90s Japanese sports/GT cars have aged really well, yeah they're down on power compared to their current counterparts and the electronics are ancient but otherwise they drive and feel like a much more recent vehicle. |

Think the best styled of the 90s homologation specials was probably the Escort RS Cosworth. The Corolla WRC was also great looking car, but the changes (suspension) in homologation reqs, all were TTE builds since no retail production quantities needed to be met. Attached File The production E110 homage 4AFE G6R and G6S (with more actual TTE body parts) Corolla's were cosmetically similar, merely skirts from the Carib and some other clues to sell WRC tie in. If they'd transferred the ST205 drivetrain, it would be worth chasing, but the only thing close was the OZ only Corolla Sportiva (and at 100 about as rare as actual WRC). Still some actual effort - a 7AFE that got turbocharged and some unique, one time body pieces, so not really up to the GTi-R. There's replicas, since works cars are rare and spendy, that come up for sale occasionally. But they aren't that much less since they are often very true to original TTE WRC buildout. GTi-R look awful good in comparison. |

I still see them around in my region, although the FD RX-7 is a rare sight and has been for many years. The reason you see early Miata's often is volume and value. The Miata did 20x the sales through only '97 as some of these. And they're worth about a 10th, average. The FD RX7 did about 13k over the roughly ten years, Supra A80 11k-ish. You can still find ample availability if you will pay - $42k for FD in average condition, double that for a A80. Nissan sold a shit ton of Z32 (like 40k) debut model year. Then about another 40k through thr rest of the decade to the last trickle in MY '96. They go for roughly half FD and are plentiful. 3000/Stealth/GTO - about the same tho I see these more often than any. Hell I was almost swiped by a wide turning Panama Green VR4 Friday Esp Supras, the mileage impacts value so you aren't seeing these rolled public as much any more. Many have prolly bought it, but if you want one of those I mentioned, you can choose from hundreds for sale, today. |

Nissan doesn't have a lot of R&D money to throw at a low-volume enthusiast car, and there is only so much they can do while being tied to the 350Z/370Z platform. I think it looks great, and it seems like they're starting to do better at getting these to market. They really bungled the launch. |
