Quoted: What engine are we picking in each of these choices? View Quote If you go with a KW or a Pete (new trucks), your engine choices are Cummins or Paccar. Our fleet has a bunch of both. They say the Paccars do a lot better than they did as compared to the same model engine 5 or 6 years ago. The guys with the red engines are happy with them. Seems when either of them go down, it’s emissions related stuff. Which again, is better than it was, but still not as low maintenance as our Detroit 60s in the gliders. The glider engines get rebuilt and go 1million plus. The new trucks get traded at 400k-450k miles. I was talking the other day to the man who runs the show. He has two of the brand new Pete 589s ordered, both with Paccars and automatic transmissions. There will be plenty of time later for me to drive one. But for now, I’m keeping my old school truck til she can’t be repaired. |

I had a ham radio acquaintance over 20 years ago who got a new Volvo truck issued to him and he said it was the greatest thing ever.
I worked at a company who bought new Volvos for their handful of drivers about 10 years ago and they like them. Of course a lot of their runs for local to the other side of DFW, automatic transmission would come in pretty handy in the middle of a daytime going across I-635 towards the airport. One of the guys had his a couple months and something with the DEF system malfunctioned and it went into limp home mode. He said it would only do about 5 mph. Luckily he was just a couple miles down the road instead of halfway to Houston where he adjust gone. |

Owned 2 Freightliners, a 2004 Century and the 2010 Cascadia.
The Century was a POS, if it could fall apart it did. The Detroit 60 didn't like the EGR valve, shitty mileage and lotsa smoke belching. Cascadia was light years ahead of the Century in terms of QC. Basically nothing fell apart, much easier to fix also. The DD15 had some quirks, the oil O rings for the oil pickup tubes could get hard and brittle, which would lead to a trashed bottom end. Oil suction manifold was made of plastic, leading to a ruined engine if it broke. Radiators were a real weak point, rough roads would tear them up. EPA mandated shit is what really ruins the trucks. |

Ive got Petes and Western Stars dump trucks
They all break. Trucks are stupid Not sure how the owner operator guys are out there surviving because their is no money in it. But as long as they cover their cost, and give me the tax deduction, I need the capability |

I’ve only driven peterbuilt, international and freight liner. My pick of those is freightliner.

Definitely Kenworth if OTR
Freightliner shouldn't even be on your list Mack for hard use |
