CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — A U.S. aircraft that specializes in detecting radioactive debris after the detonation of a nuclear device has arrived on Okinawa amid rising tensions on the Korean peninsula.

An Air Force WC-135 Constant Phoenix — commonly referred to as a nuke-sniffer — arrived at Kadena Air Base last Friday evening, said Satoru Kuba, an Okinawan who monitors military aircraft traffic at Kadena Air Base.

A spokesperson for the Air Force’s 18th Wing at Kadena did not immediately respond to requests for comment, and Japan’s Ministry of Defense would not immediately verify the report.

The Pentagon has often deployed one of the Air Force’s two WC-135 aircraft to the Asia-Pacific region since North Korea detonated an underground nuclear device in 2006. The plane also flew over Japan in 2011 after the meltdown at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant, according to the Washington Post.

me grandad saw the kaiser send his armies into belgium to start ww1 because france would surely attack germany once russia attacked germany. one man reacting to the insult of some idiot murdering a man and his wife who happened to turn down the wrong street

and my grandma's grandma saw sherman storm through georgia.

i myself have not seen anything equivalent in my lifetime, but it seems that all of my ancestors did, perhaps this will be our time to see something of a similar level of world events.

frankly i was hoping to live out my life in a relative time of 'calm' compared to much of the world's history

Normally I'd agree with your cynicism, but I think we're pushing chips in on NK.

I actually see this one too. He's got nukes, he's continuing to develop them, he's unpredictable. That's not good for any country.

I think that's why there's so much international support on this.

As a child of the cold war, I grew up pretty much convinced that I would live to see the end of the world.
By my 40's I kinda figured out that just about every generation thinks that...but it never comes.
Still....I have a few decades to go...so we will see what happens

It is now very clear that unless North Korea destroys it's nuclear and ballistic missile inventory and vouches never to embark in this direction, the world will need to intervene to do the needful -
