From the NBC nightly news tonight. When the reporter asked the parents if they believed their daughter, the mother said yes while shaking her head no. Pretty telling.

I haven't completely scrolled back in this thread to see if anyone else has noticed that Red Roof Inn was the place investigators today revealed in the timeline she'd hid out for a day before returning home and not electing to continue on her journey to Birmingham, Alabama.
https://www.al.com/news/2023/07/carlee-russell-timeline-what-happened-in-the-49-hours-she-was-missing.html Red Roof Inn was mentioned by another ARFCOM member who said days ago that he had an insider tip from investigators that her plans were to sneak off to have an abortion without her parents finding out. It makes me think that was perhaps the information that purple jacket man in today's press conference declined to release citing her privacy. Makes me think she invented the whole story as a cover-up to visit the Planned Parenthood clinic in Birmingham and stupidly believed that this would not spiral out of control. |

View Quote Since Roe vs Wade was overturned, abortion has been outlawed in Alabama and neighboring southern states except Georgia. She now has to travel to get one. But she's a strait-laced Christian girl with a college degree from a financially comfortable Southern Baptist home living with both parents like she's still a teenager. She can't just travel on a whim out of state and out of "Find Friends" (Apple Watch and iOS) for several days without raising insistent questions and admitting hurtful truths to her family, She makes herself missing through a false kidnapping leaving her traceable devices behind. She intends to fly out of AL to GA the next state over where she can get an abortion (or had planned that a friend/boyfriend to drive her and they get cold feet because of the furor), has to turn back on her plans because she's national news and even in the UK and France, and finally walks home and invents a corny story and the refuses to speak further. Oh, I'm sure her BFF or boyfriend knows what happened. The cops aren't looking for white abductors but they might want to talk to her friends. The FBI says they're now involved. They may not jump on every in-state missing persons case but they do have interest in false kidnappings and abductions. I bet people surrounding her will be lots more willing to tell full truths when a genuine FBI agent introduces themselves and begins by telling the interview subject that lying to them is not the same as lying to Detective Cletus or the Howard Chief of police who has zero fashion sense. |

Not a whiff of anything ghetto about her. Upper middle class decent black people in a traditional nuclear family. She's a female college grad. I bet she was raised strict. That's my read. Imagine what those would have to be in light of them just shy of openly declaring she conducted a hoax abduction. On Wednesday, Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis said they found no evidence so far to support her clams of abduction. He was asked at the same press conference if charges will be filed against Russell but he said that’s not something they’ve discussed yet.
At this point, no charges have been filed in connection the Carlee Russell’s disappearance. That being said, former U.S. Attorney Jay Town said it is illegal to give false reports or false statements to law enforcement. Depending on who the comments are made to could determine how severe those charges are. .. Town says there are also civil penalties that could come out of this, adding that law enforcement agencies could try to recoup the monetary resources that were used in the search. Chief Derzis said Russell was seen on surveillance video concealing a robe and toilet paper from a business the day she went missing. When we asked the owner of Woodhouse Spa about pressing theft charges, Stuart Rome said they are considering their options. All in all, Town says charges remain possible. “Well the reason why you do prosecute individuals that make false statements is because you do fear that communities will not come out in mass as they did here with Carlee Russell and that they just stay at home,” he explained. “That gives us less opportunity to find true victims of crime.” .. “I think it would be incredibly irresponsible of Carlee Russell not to be talking to law enforcement right now if her story is true. The fact that she is refusing to do so, regardless of whatever trauma she says she suffered, that would mean there are two kidnappers - with a baby in tow by the way - that remain at large that could do this to somebody else, to the same community that was out looking for her, that all came together for her, that all prayed for her, that gave their money to CrimeStoppers in search of her safe return. And so she’s sitting at home being silent, remaining silent. If her story’s true, she needs to tell it so the good guys can go get the bad guys. If her story’s not true, I can understand why she’s not talking to law enforcement. She probably needs to talk to a lawyer.” Jay Town, Former U.S. Attorney for Northern District of Alabama https://www.wbrc.com/2023/07/20/former-us-attorney-gives-insight-into-what-could-be-next-carlee-russell-case/ |
