Damn I love it. I've just recently gotten back into lifting weights after a solid 2.5 year hiatus. I got into it hard when I deployed in '09 and started seeing serious progress until mid 2011 when I had knee surgery.. Started getting back into it, but then burst a couple discs in my back early 2012 and fell out of it again.
I forgot how freakin good it feels after a really hard workout. I'm out of the mil now, so hopefully I can avoid injury again and get back to where I used to be. Cool story brah. |
|
I never liked lifting by itself, but I like using weights mixed with cardio stuff.
I worked out this morning and I will have the good sore tomorrow. |
|
I am getting back into it. I am still sore from leg day on Friday and hobbling around.
|
|
I enjoy it when I'm doing it and after, but I have a hard time staying committed past a month or so.
Something always just seems to "come up" that fucks up my rhythm which then "throws me off" for far too long. I'm not in bad shape, but I could certainly be in better |
|
Four days a week for the last 4-5 years. Tomorrow is back day.
I look forward to lifting. |
|
I've been lifting for years.
Not for maximum body building but for muscle toning. Nothing changes your body shape faster than a weight lifting program.... |
|
There is not a better more beneficial physical activity than weight training.
|
|
I'm following a Catalyst Athletics Olympic lifting program right now. I love it.
You should come over to self defense and fitness and check out the 5/3/1 thread. |
|
I wouldn't be alive today if it wasn't for weight lifting. It has gotten me through so much BS (stress relief) completely clears my mind, it is really a cure all for everything if you think about it

I need to get back into it. I'm fat and lazy. View Quote I'm trying not to be fat. Scales says I'm down 15 to 179 lbs in the last few months. I was up to 205 last year. I picked up a bike to ride for some cardio, and would like to start lifting. But whatever I do, I'll have to buy my equipment and set up here. Not sure outside of a bench with butterfly's and some free weights as to what I need to get. |

I lift 4 days a week just to stay in decent shape. Going on 13 years now.

Getting back into it myself op. Got a bunch of free weights from a coworker and have been hitting it hard. The hotel I'm in has a fitness center but its just cables and some dumbbells to hold me over.

I don't even know where to start with lifting. I need to get into it.
Cardio? no problem. Lifting? no idea |

I honestly do get a "high" off of stepping in the weight room.
Its the best part of my day. |
|
I need to get back at it. I've only lifted, and very light, a few times since May. I had a spill on the road bike and messed up my shoulder.
It's mostly better now, and if I worked back at the weightlifting, it would probably be close enough to completely healed. I feel fat and weak now, even though I'm still on the bike fairly regularly. Cardio alone just doesn't do it. |

I'm pretty into it. Started last January 2013. I get a rush, and it's pretty much saved me from drinking myself to poor health. 4-6 days a week of lifting keeps me out of the bar.

I don't even know where to start with lifting. I need to get into it. Cardio? no problem. Lifting? no idea View Quote Most people in a gym are pretty cool and helpful. Go in, find someone who looks like they are fit, does their exercises slow and purposeful, and ask them. I used to hold a PTC, train some, have been working out since I was 9. I regularly help people in the gym, sometimes for weeks. Going in and grabbing a set of dumbbells is one thing, but doing the exercise the most efficient yet least damaging way is something else. Without someone helping you, stick with machines. Please don't jump into the gym and start deadlifting or anything like that without learning proper technique first.... |

Good form? What is it? how do I get it? Pretty overwhelming to my noob-assed self Go to bodybuilding.com and search out a program that appeals to you. Choose something in the beginner range that focuses more on getting you in shape and less on becoming Jay Cutler...once you're in decent shape and acquire a good form you can start worrying about adding mass and becoming a beast if you want. Make a commitment to yourself, follow the program, and keep yourself accountable instead of making excuses. Oh, and don't get too sucked in by the site pushing supplements, they're definitely trying to make money. I just like their programs regardless as a good guide. |

Lifting? no idea Squat Bench Press Deadlift Easy! Yeah but How do you know how much weight to start with? Good form? What is it? how do I get it? Pretty overwhelming to my noob-assed self Starting Strength is pretty much the go to. If you don't know someone that is into lifting, I think paying for a coach is worth it at least for a short while to get the form right. Lots of little details that are hard to pick up from watching videos. That said, for the big compound lifts, EliteFTS has some kickass video series (IMO) that helped me increase my lifts just by modifying my form. Google "So you think you can bench," "so you think you can squat," and "so you think you can deadlift." The videos get into some details that I haven't seen elsewhere.

Being a student, I have access to a full gym that I take advantage of 2 - 3 times a week at the university. I do weights and cardio, although I am slacking on the cardio right now mainly because I walk just about everywhere on campus.

No more lifting for me. I get hurt every time I go. Shit form and all that. I'm content being a couch slug.

I've been lifting (powerlifting type) for years, but just got interested more in Oly type lifting. I've never done a hang/clean, clean/jerks, or snatches in my life, so I just started with the bar and tens on each end and added plates as I thought I could and could keep correct(ish) form. |

Quick review: A complex is where you pick up a barbell, perform several reps of an exercise with it, then move right into another exercise, then another, and another, and maybe one or two more. Then you see black spots, get all ripped 'n shit, and bang swimsuit models.
I have done Coscgroves Evil 8 a couple times on my off days and holy shit. You will see black spots. LINK |

I need to lift in order to stay as lean as I am., but I make sure not to build more muscle mass. I am 6'4 225#s and want to stay this size. I consider myself to be a pretty much perfect specimen (and so do most females). I know I could easily get up to 250# and still look good, but then it would be more wear and tear on my body and would limit my speed and agility.
