If you don't mind used a Harrington Richardson 922 comes to mind. They can usually be had for about $125-150 if you shop around. Maybe even cheaper.

I'd given one of these a thought

however the prices seem to be steadily increasing and since they've been out of production since the mid 80s what is the spare parts situation like?

Aside from that though how do they shoot?

The one I had was pretty accurate even though the trigger was only ok. I wish I'd kept it.

If they didn't cost as much as a decent Sig 229/226 I'd vote for the 617.

I shot one and absolutely loved it. Planned on buying one until I saw the price tag.

I frequently take new shooters out.   Most do well with starting on the .22lr SP101 and then going up to my GP100 with 38 special,  then full power .357.  Both are 4".

As others have posted, I love my H&R 999 Sportsman.  Mine has the 4" barrel, I keep looking for one with the 6" barrel.  Mine is plenty accurate, I'd just like to have one of each.

10 shot GP100 22  Runs right around $600 if you order through a dealer like GrabaGun.  One of these is on my list to buy when I have the $$$.    Same with the SP101 version, so I can have a .22 version of my revolvers.

Edit:  Speaking of the SP101 22, the 8 shot is about the same price at GrabaGun.

Any of the old High Standard line of nine-shot revolvers. I happen to like the Sentinel....Dad carried one on his trap lines for 40 years and it never failed him.

This is my deluxe model.

Unfortunately, the cost to manufacture in labor and materials is probably not much different than their centerfire models, so yes they are expensive.

I lucked into a used 4" 617-6 pretty cheap, I love it.

You mentioned the Single-Ten. As much as I would love to recommend it, I can't.

It was on my "See it, buy it list!" so the first one that showed up in the LGS was snatched up. But I eventually sold it.
Now, don't get me wrong, it is a fine revolver. Built as well as any Single-Six. But the ten shot cylinder was a great idea that just wasn't.

In a swing out cylinder, or top break revolver, sure. But loading  (and especially ejecting) those ten chambers through a loading gate with a cylinder that doesn't properly index to line them up was something I hadn't foreseen. There is very little rotation between the chambers and if you go even slightly too far it clicks and you have to go back around. I eventually just started popping the cylinder out and punching out what didn't shake loose with a dowel.

I eventually sold it to a friend for his wife, it's a beauty despite its quirks. She carries it around with her (she works with and around wild animals) but hardly ever shoots it so it wasn't as big of a deal to her.

I'll replace it with another Single-Six one day.

If I ever get another ten-shot .22, it will probably be a S&W 617 or the Ruger GP100.

I have a 94. I looked at several before buying mine. Some are very rough guns. Mine has a very slick action and very good fit/ finish. They need to be judged individually.

I have the Ruger Single Ten.  It is an inaccurate POS.  I have not had good luck with Ruger .22 revolvers.

I'm very happy with my Rossi Plinker.  Better fit and finish than I was expecting for the price, and the trigger is decent enough.  My only complaint is that the grips are a bit on the small side, but I haven't done any homework to see if other larger Rossi or Taurus grips will interchange.

EAA bounty hunter SSA is a fantastic gun.
Comes as a 9shot .22lr with a .22mag cylinder, every bit as good as a ruger single 9

I recently picked up a H&R Sportsman to add to my collection.  Didn't have a top-break revolver nor a .22 double action.  I have not been able to shoot it much but I do like it.  One thing to keep in mind if you find one, keep the hammer on an empty cylinder.  Mine was made in the late 30's and the hammer can impact the primer hard enough to set the round off if dropped.

+1 on the 317, but man they are pricey these days new. It's a great pack gun.

I have a Taurus 94 ultralight in 22 and honestly, it's not bad at all, and a 22LR isn't exactly going to stress the thing mechanically.
