I always wondered why somebody didn't just load standard 9mm bullets in necked up .223.....would be pretty cheap

Interesting...would definitely be popular in areas that only allow straight wall rifle cases for hunting. Sort of want because reasons... |

Its been that way for a long time. In the 70s, 80s, and 90s it was the super ultra long mega magnum cartridges and the various "varmint" rounds. in the 2000s it was the super ultra short mega magnum cartridges. In the 2010s it has been mostly AR-15 and AR-10 cartridges. Thankfully these are actually useful for more than just blowing a whitetail in half from 3 counties over and more people are actually buying them to shoot. Does anyone lament the lack of popularity of 7mm STW or 300 Weatherby? Me either. View Quote |

I wonder what a 65gr Lehigh XD bullet going 3400+ fps would do to a block of ballistics gelatin.

From the tech thread:
https://www.outdoorhub.com/news/2019/01/21/472023/ "The 1st rifle being offered is a Winchester XPR bolt-action. The cartridge will be working within a grain weight of 145 – 265 grains. Within that spectrum you have your choice of a 145 Grain FMJ (Full-Metal Jacket), 150 Grain Deer Season XP, and 180 Grain PowerPoint for factory ammo... The explicit bullet diameter is .357? with a 1.71? case length... Simple FMJ boxes of 20 rounds are expected to sell for $9.99 making them very affordable." |

This is what I always wanted.
I'm so glad I waited to adopt 300. If this ends up being cromulent I will ditch 308 and fully adopt the one AR project. |

It’s like A blackout except you can’t accidentally chamber it.

Here is a link to the actual article. Not sure what that other link was about?

If they want it to take off, start dumping 20 round WWB FMJ for $8/box.
|

So, would this work in my .30cal suppressor after 4 or 5 shots?

View Quote Honestly looking forward to this, I think it will be very fun suppressed with the proper barrel twist and a big fat cast bullet. Should be able to get away with most any 9mm can with a decent barrel length I would think with subsonics. |

As a kid, shooting my first .357 magnum revolver, I always wanted an AR15 cartridge to shoot a .357 bullet.
Why? I'm not sure. Just seemed like the ultimate in home defense type of cartridge |

Might be useful in Michigan and other straight wall cartridge hunting states depending on the cartridge length.
ETA someone already mentioned this. I've been really happy with .450 Bushmaster |

starline sells a .223 basic case for those worried about brass 1.780 - 1.810 O.A.L.

Seems....familiar. https://www.americanrifleman.org/articles/2017/12/19/a-look-back-at-the-winchester-model-1907-rifle/ I like the 1907 version. It’s sexy in a classic way. But it needs the 15 or 20 round mag. |

humm...
I wonder if there's gonna be any extraction issues with that long of straight case. |

I'm going to die if we're able to buy Winchester marked ARs. I never thought I'd see a Ruger or Savage marked AR. |

I've been wanting a 357 straight wall rimless. I like the cartridge and specs. Soooo... IN!
The 9x39 was what I've been watching. This will also make the cut. |

I love 35 cals. There's a huge variety of bullets from 110gr pistol bullets to .250 gr heavies. I expect 200gr would be about the limit with this new cartridge without taking up too much powder space. Although really heavy subsonics might work. View Quote |

I definitely want.
Go over to castboolits.gunloads.com in the special projects section, and you will find where there have been uppers already made and running a 357 max AR rimless cartridge. 1.6" in length. Have to trim and ream 223 brass or the Starline basic brass. I tried it years ago (turned 357 max brass to 223 rim specs) but gave up because of magazine issues, but the guy called "Moleman" got it all figured out and working. 200gr and 2000 fps should be doable. I have a rechambered Ruger #1, in 357 max and can get a 200gr cast over 2200 fps. Probably run 180'ish gr. bullets in the 350 legend. Powder coated 180's should work great!! |

I like it. I may build up a deer rifle around it, though I'm not sure it will really do anything better than my .444 Marlin AK.
I'm curious about velocity and drop with the ~150grain hunting bullet loads. |

just to clarify for my dumb self, this uses .357 mag diameter bullets?
That would make an extremely versatile subsonic cartridge. A reloader's dream, really. |
