One of my co-workers told me yesterday that another co-worker, periodically comes to my desk if I'm away, sits down and browses through my computer windows.
This nosey bastards son also works here and his son sent me an instant message yesterday morning asking how to do something in our engineering system. I explained how then minimized the window. shortly after that I had to go to our metal shop and when I returned to my desk I noticed that the conversation was open again. Now if the son had responded to my message, the window would re-open, however there was no response from him. I thought that was odd and made mention of it to the guy I share an office with when he told me that this other guy periodically comes to my desk, and if I'm not around, he sits down and peruses through my windows. This guy isn't IT, or my boss. He's just a co-worker in the engineering team. I asked if he does it a lot and the guy says "Yeah, pretty often. Maybe not every day but it's probably almost every day." What would you do if you were me? |

Log off or sleep mode anytime I left my desk. He could be downloading all kinds of illicit crap from your workstation and you would be the one who gets blamed.

I don’t leave my desk without locking computer. EVER! If I don’t some coworker will send an email from me to vp with “I really really love you”
Windows key - L |

I have a locked and restricted office and still lock my computer when I step out of the office.

Lock the damn computer when you step away.
What was that line from FMJ? "If it wasn't for assholes like you, there wouldn't be any thievery!" That applies here. |
|
Hit the Windows button + L every time you walked away from the computer

LMFAO, the workstations at my old job (ISP) all had a generic log in that required no password. So anyone could get on your computer. I had to physically tell those fucknuts that would always infect PC's with random STDs to stay the fuck away from my workstation.

Yeah, as 87 people already said, NEVER leave your computer without locking it. There are literally hundreds of reasons for this but mostly, because people suck.

Have it covered in superglue. |

Lock your computer or log out. Who the fuck doesn't do this?? Its policy at work and in the military in my experience.

Leaving an unattended computer unlocked is like parking your car and leaving it unlocked, with the key in the ignition.

Pull your CAC card. Leaving a system logged in is a CAT 1 finding.

If your company tracks your internet usage then get on his computer and start downloading onto his machine the kinkiest most depraved porn you can.

Make up a fake email between you and the boss talking about how you can easily take over Nosey Guy's responsibilities when the fire him on Monday.

My favorite that I would do was send the CEO an email from the unlocked system saying I'm a little teapot short and stout. By policy all PC are locked when not in use. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

In a whole lot of places how you'd feel is unemployed for leaving your computer unlocked while you're not there. But at least you'd have the company of your former and now unemployed co-worker.

I have a good friend that was terminated from a well paying job because he didn't lock his computer and another employee downloaded nasty porn on it. Cameras in the warehouse with time stamps proved he wasn't at the terminal when it was downloaded but leaving the computer unlocked was still a violation.

We were required to lock our computers.
Only person besides me with pw was co-worker who had same trade authority as me. If someone got on a chat with a counterparty, any deal they did would be concrete. Such as, need 50 mws on pk tomorrow north Counterparty, got it at $65 My im, Done The deal is finished, and concrete. If the market was at $50, we just lost $12,000 |

Aside from everything else, what kind of buddy fucking piece of shit is your office mate to a) let this happen or b) not at least give you the heads up after the first time?

I can literally get written up even fired if I don't lock my computer when I walk away from it.
Also, I might report it to your boss. |
|
I could be fired if I left my computer unlocked while not in it's immediate control. OPs solution is simple.
