I have an old SKS I saved from bubba a couple years ago. Never shot it much, but like to keep practice with it. I only had about 80 rounds on hand so I decided I'd at least replace what I planned on shooting.
Went to a few gun stores, including Sportman's, and while they all had plenty of just about everything, nobody had any 7.62X39. I finally found a little hole in the wall shop around the corner that had a few boxes in stock. 100 rounds, $78 bucks, steel case. Yeah, I won't be feeding this thing anymore. Shame, as it ran really well, not a single malfunction and I got my stripper clip skills down pretty good too. |

Where the hell are you, Calif or NY??
762x 39 is one of the cheapest rounds out there. It's a cheap gun and a cheap round. |
|
If you are not stocked up currently you are out of luck and can include 5.45x39 too the list as well

Not cheap but it is a good round with the right gun. I have a Ruger Ranch rifle in 7.62x39 and it is rather accurate. I buy good ammo for it and use it for deer hunting.

Looking at SGammo. 600 a thousand now for steel case, yikes. I think I have between 3 and 4K still lying around. Guess I won't be shooting my Arsenal Saiga anymore. Also a banned Russian item now.

OP.. yeah it’s more expensive than the salad days but not $.78/round expensive.

i think PSA has their steel cased 7.62x39 for about $.46/rnd when it's in stock
|

Uh, Russian sanctions drove cost up since they were the major source of cheap cartridges.

I still have either three or four cases of Yugo on strippers stashed, and a shitload of wolf and golden tiger. I bought a shitload and a half years ago when it was cheap.

And people here thought i was an idiot for reloading 762x39 and 545x39.

Clean when you’re done and the old M67 is some of the best around. |

Yeah it's pretty crazy priced now I have several thousand stored of the steel cased stuff.
I mostly just shoot my cast reloads out of my AK pickup the brass and do it all again. Attached File |

PSA has it at 50 cents/round - https://palmettostatearmory.com/tula-7-62x39-122gr-fmj-20rd-box-ul76201.html
Definitely nowhere near as cheap as it once was, though |
|
I picked up a fair amount of 7.62x39 years back when it was plentiful and cheap - for my handy "truck gun" paratroop SKS.
I even have some reloading propellant, dies, brass and bullets to make a few hundred rounds if I ever needed to. It's a pretty effective little round. |

Ukraine is buying it by the pallet. Not even just Ukrain...wars popping up all over the globe. If we happen to get a lull in that you'll see it come down in price a bit.. bettee take that chance to stack it. |

I can buy brass 223 for the same price right now. I did stumble upon 7.62x25 fiocchi at sportsman's warehouse the other day. That surprised me. The $1.10/round also surprised me! Yikes! |

If there was any cartridge that will never, ever be a boutique round other than 9mm Luger, it's Seven Six TUBA thurty naan. |

Sam warned you all when he was begging you to buy Golden Tiger @ $199 per 1,000.

Used to be dirt cheap. Russian imports got cut and now it’s more than 5.56. I got out of the platform and ammo long ago so it doesn’t affect me.

Last time I bought 7.62x39 by the case it was $95/1000 and I felt like I was getting ripped off. I was used to the $69/1000 sales and got spoiled.

The writing has been on the wall every since the war in Ukraine started.

Quoted: If you are not stocked up currently you are out of luck and can include 5.45x39 too the list as well View Quote I've been finding non corrosive 5.45x39 at local online auctions. With taxes and fees, if I can get it for less than 25 cents per round, I buy it. I've bought 3500 rds or so in the last year of 5.45 I divested myself of 7.62x39 guns and ammo long ago. |

Alot of poor people on this site. I can finally say go be poor somewhere else
Though no longer inexpensive as it used to be the ammo is reasonable in today’s market considering all the factors that have driven the price up |

Quoted: Shit, I have 5000 rounds for that weapon alone sitting in my closet all by itself back home View Quote Yeah and I bet you bought it more than two years ago. Steelcase 7.62x39 isn’t as cheap or as plentiful as it was before the Ukraine / Russian war. The only kind of ammo we find locally is at academy and it’s either Norma or Winchester brass case. My son ordered wolf about 3 months ago and it turned out to be corrosive. Yes it was marked non corrosive. |
