I LOVE shooting my WASR-10 and the way I have it set up I’m actually really proficient with it. Such a bummer that it’s just no fun to shoot anymore due to this very discussion..I have like 2500rds which is basically none..

Geez, PSA is having a sale on it right now. Tula, $9.99 a box of 20. Igman, brass cased for $12.99 .
Tactical Shit has 1000 rounds for $492.50 with free shipping. Stock up. |

Quoted: True, but there are other former block countries producing that are not subject to sanctions. When things settle in the region, the price will moderate. View Quote Ukraine will replace Russia as the new combloc cartridge maker post war. I doubt it will be as consistent or as quality as Barnaul, but good enough. When the war started I went to our local academy in Laredo and bought a dozen of the spam cans. I only have one 7.62 rifle, a Sam7sf. |

Quoted: Somebody forgot to stack it deep when it was cheap. I wouldnt say its a boutique round just yet. The russian supply is cut off. We're still waiting for other options to rush in and fill the vacuum. The reason you aren't seeing much at academy is because their monarch house brand was russian barnaul. They need time to replace it in their pipeline. View Quote Meanwhile, it doesn't do anything better than other options that either are already cheap, or are becoming so. Add to this, the AK platform is no longer cheaper to buy than other comparable platforms. In fact, the cheapest AKs to be found are crawling all over double the cost of budget ARs, and use ammo that's at least as expensive, if not moreso. You can't even get an SKS for what you can find an AR for anymore. If you've got a .300blk rifle with an 8-10" barrel, you can duplicate 7.62x39 ballistics using supers, while still getting good silencer performance with subs, and all out of a pistol length barrel in a platform that's cheaper to acquire. PSA sells AAC .300 for around $0.50, IIRC. I think 7.62 is on the way to joining 7.62 nagant, 7.62x25, and 6.5 Carcano as formerly popular rounds that have become (or are becoming) oddities. They all shared one thing in common, and all suffered a similar fate because of it. I'm still regretting not stacking 7.62 nagant deep enough when it sold for dirt. Nobody who's already invested in the caliber has any particular reason to divest just yet, but there's no real reason other than 'wants' to get into it anymore. That situation is the gateway to boutique land. And I'm saying this as somebody who used to be a hardcore Fuck ARs -- AK master race type. |

I have been reloading 7.62x39mm since the late 80's.
You can safely use .308 diameter bullets which are commonly available. Speer TNT 125/130 grain .308 diameter bullets work great. Hornady .310" and .311" Sierra's will always be my first picks, but you don't have to wait for them to become available or pay the premium price. H4198 H322 300 Blkout AA2200 RE-7 and a host of other fast burning rifle powders are ideal for this round. Having purchased brass in bulk whenever it was on sale over the years, has me well stocked today. PMC used to sell crates of 7.62x39mm with reloadable brass, IMI brass and ammo was available in bulk. I never purchased any U.S. manufactured brass in this caliber. I suspect the big names will start making more in this caliber if foreign options dry up. IMO we will never see Russian ammo in bulk and cheap for the rest of our lives. Even when the war is over, the animosity will linger for decades. |

I hate looking at those things! I've always wanted an underfolder, but they were an extra $50 over the fixed stock so I was waiting for a sale. All of a sudden, they were $600+, and I never could justify that much. So I Don't have one. And now the kits without barrels are selling for what I once refused to pay for a complete rifle.
Thanks, swamp creatures. |

Maybe Ukraine mostly uses 545x39 and they're using as many ARs as they can get it seems. Not sure how much 762 they would be buying. |

.50ish a round for 7.62x39 just angers me. I am living in the past when it was $90 a case.

I was doing other things. Shooting 5.45 and not being able to keep up with it. 7.62x39 wasn’t on my mind. And when I decided I might want some more, ??

I have an absolute metric shit ton of 7.62x39. It was so cheap for so long. I also have an RPD and three RPKs that like to eat if the need arises. I loved it when Sam got the 1400rd wood crates of spam can Barnaul. I made furniture out of those. I still like my AKs, but I would go 5.56 AR if I had to start over since the prices have changed so much.

Last gun show I went to in April.
9mm- 1000 rounds for $289 762X 39 1000 rounds for $550 5.56 1000 rounds for $650 Prices aren't from the 90's but they are not outrageous considering inflation. But there are people that will complain there is nothing to get at gunshows, but jerky and beanie babies |
