How does the $40 Icon compare to the $28 Hart?

Quoted: Quoted: I have the icon set. got it after rave reviews here. I should have known better. I am not a fan of 1/4" bit tools. it is small and probably works fine. you can tell its made in china and its really heavy for such a small kit. Then you shouldn't have bought it. No point in having anything smaller than 3/4" drive tools. Those smaller things just don't hold up to teh real jobs. |

Quoted: How does the $40 Icon compare to the $28 Hart? View Quote Hart and Milwaukee are owned by the same corp. https://www.harttools.com/products/flex-head-mini-ratchet-set So, to compare, the Hart is a 1/4 drive ratchet not bit ratchet like the Icon. Therefore it does not have a pass through, t handle or even a bit driver at the bottom. Nonetheless it has a flex head and the price is better unless you use a HF coupon. The new HF will also be a ratchet driver instead of bit driver but will have a bit socket at the end. Edit, the Hart actually appears to be a non pass thru bit holder. It has a built in bottle opener. |

The Hart is a Bit holder type, with a bit eject button, not a pass through. Its got a pretty smooth ratchet action. Made in South Korea. The handle end is not a bit driver, Icon beats it there. Next time HF has a good coupon I might have to pick up the Icon.

Bought a 3/8th set in the early 2000s, marked USA on handle but sockets marked Indonesia, have had good luck with them bought a 1/4 set 5 years ago, have replaced handle 3 times, went and bought a cheap S-K to replace it wouldnt buy any of the new craftsman stuff anymore i buy cornwell or s-k stuff now but open to trying the icon stuff |

Not interested in the Craftsman tools with the here it is , now its only with a recipt , now its gone warrantee . In my area there is about one lowes or harbor freight for every three or four Home Depots.
I just go to Home Depot and buy a Husky set. In the rare case I need a replacement for something I beat on and broke I pick any HD store and without doing any foolish paperwork or messing about they hand me a exact replacement or if they don't have that they give me something better. Tools hold up fine , HD stores everywhere and they make the whole process easy and fast |

I bought the Craftsman. It has a similar case to the Icon. It is however larger and heavier. The stronger feel normal ratchet is nice but less flexible than the Icon. It has 2 extensions plus a swivel. It has a seperate bit driver.
I think It is barely worth a 100 bucks but I think the upcoming 65 dollar Icon will in many ways be better. The Icon will have 2 sets of sockets. |

I find myself using more and more 1/4" drive unless I'm doing suspension work or pulling the heads off an engine. For common fasteners with a 10mm head, 1/4" drive should be all you need and the small wrench fits into tight engine bays.
I already own the small Icon set and will probably buy the larger set as well. I'm planning to build my retirement shop soon and need duplicates for the common tools that I want to have at home as well. |
