Near Bluefield WV.

Too faint for photography.  I wish I had bought my binos in.

My son and I watched it here from south Jersey. Crisp clear night sky could see it clearly accelerate across the sky. I let my son watch it with my pvs-14, I was pumped we caught it.

Thanks for giving the general observing location.   How high above the horizon was it?   Your fist at arms length is about 10 degrees (pinkie to first finger).

Did you see the first stage re-entry burn?

Is the issue their link to a satellite or another ship?   Would using Starlink solve the problem?  I can't believe that they would not have tried it.

You mean the ones with laser crosslinks?

I don't know.

"4-1" probably refers to the first launch of satellites for shell #4.  I don't have the orbital parameters for that shell.

According to Wikipedia, 4-1 is going to 540 kilometer altitude and 53.2 degrees inclination.

Most of the ones up now are at 550 kilometers and 53 degrees inclination.    I have no idea why such a minor change is needed unless related to collision avoidance.

If all else fails, they could buffer it on the drone ship, and then transmit it shortly after the rocket had landed.

What they're currently doing works so poorly - and fact that they don't seem particularly interested in fixing it - really gives the appearance that they're trying to hide something.

Drone ship landings are one of the crown jewels of the company's accomplishments.

The fact that they don't put more effort into showcasing them is...suspicious.

Vibrations cause issues with the satellite targeting. They get telemetry telling them the booster is landed and in good condition. They aren't in the movie business.

It's the satellite uplink.

Basically, the damn thing is shaking so much that it can't keep a lock.

There are all sorts of solutions that could be implemented if broadcasting landings was their business.

But it isn't. And they often post stuff later. And every once in a while, it does work.
