When I got her home the first night, I put some flea drops on her and they all ran into her ears and then I found her passed out with dead fleas everywhere around her.

Once her skin healed, her hair grew like cousin it. Then it all fell out because the mange had something to feed on. Back to the vet for a couple dips.

She turned 7 this year 🙂

Rescues make the best pets. We're down to 1 very geriatric tabby cat that my brother-in-law found on the side of the road almost 17 years ago. Wife had a Maine coon rescue when we met, and we got a Siamese kitten from the shelter in 2001. The Siamese we had to put down a few years before the Maine coon, who was 20+. Miss the great hunter Siamese yowling with a sock in his mouth as he paraded around the house at night with his successful "hunt". The Maine coon was really chatty, and whenever you were outside (she was indoor/outdoor) she would talk to you, and whomever was nearby.

Tagged for updates, hope he makes it OP.

Good on ya' and I hope the vet says no major problem, but sometimes it doesn't work out that way.

An old girl friend and I passed through Indian country on the way to the grand canyon. The res was full of mongrel dogs, and when we made a stop there, we fed a bunch of them. On the way back, we did the same, and one little fellow we remembered was obviously doing more poorly than when we first saw him. The girl insisted we take him with us.

Back home, after several hundred in vet bills, the report was "he's not going to make it." I had to shoot the poor little bastard, and it sucked.

Fingers crossed that your little guy gets a happy ending. You both deserve it...

That is one cute little pup.

Sitting in your lap while driving. That dog is comfy with you and knows you saved its life.

Best story I've read on arf in a while it seems.

Good luck Rudy

The older I get, the more sentimental.

Also, life has a habit of stacking up responsibilities, stress, pressure. And we just keep our head down, plow our way through,  do what needs to be done. Shoving down all those distractions.

And one simple picture of innocence, trust, helplessness can hit that release switch. No shame in that at all. Shows us we're still human and mostly sane.

Good man.

I just took care of 3, what I thought were feral, kittens. They showed up on the porch of my cabin one night. Turns out they weren't feral at all and I'm thinking someone just dropped them off up here. Mind you I'm way up in the national forest…nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile through the woods…but it happens all the time time out here. Saw a Coyote carry a puppy off that someone must have dropped off. Scum bags. If you're not going to care for them find someone that will or put a bullet in their head but don't leave them in the mountains.

Anyways got them fixed, shots and found them homes. I think what saved them from being dinner was the fact that the great Pyrenees are back, 4 of them, and they combat patrol  the mountain,  in two man teams, looking for Coyotes to kill. They seem to be real good at their chosen profession.

OP's a good man.

I've never understood the few people I've met that had no compassion for a scared and starving stray. I can't imagine how hollow a person must be to deny a helpless animal the most basic of needs.
