I have to say that it gives me great pleasure, and pride, to see my name up there. I have never met any of you. I have no idea what your lives are like or when your last frost date is. But these projects mean so much! And it's due to the incredible commitment you have to your students, and the incredible commitment your students have to you, AND THE COMMITMENT THEY HAVE TO THEIR WORK, and the involvement into all of your lives (teacher and students) these threads provide. It's a beautiful piece of America that we wouldn't see without this.

Update 5/28
Last full day of school for students.  Those that show up will have half a day tomorrow. Going to be close! We are pretty close to being done. I just found the clock that we should have decorated.  That won't get done this year. I'll try to get someone on it, right at the beginning of next year. I simply forgot about it. It sits on a book shelf behind my desk at the moment.  We did get the video of the U-Boat and Liberty Ship display up and running on Friday!  Power is off while we were working on the heart problems, but more details for our crew members, and the stormy skies behind are finished.   Checking the Dragon head keel for fitment. Still a little too thick.      Slimmed down more. Not sure how I feel about how light the antler tips are, but as we oil paint the head, they may blend in with the values a bit more and not look so bold.  Repainting with the base coat.  Got a few photos from above, while students were signing the walls.     Giving the Dragon rider his sword.   Students worked to melt the fingers of our crew around the ropes on Friday.  Open heart surgery still underway. We think it's a programming problem, and hopefully my Seniors come in today. They came in Friday and worked to get the mechanical problems(loose attachment points) taken care of.  We added more details to our dragon keel with epoxy around the nose and eyes.   Adding oil paint.   |

Update 5/28.2
Lots of pictures to share, and many students are still working to finish all that n3eds done. @brass we did get your name up there. I'm sorry we somehow missed that. Students had lists divided up, and it got skipped.  Students worked to paint the new dragon head this morning.   Students also continued to sign the project. We have a few more to do tomorrow.  Finishing up, many students are now cleaning up our display area. The lift needs cleaned and paint removed, and the floors have hot glue and paint all over them.    Once we got the head up on the keel, we worked to touch up the voids in the oils that we couldn't see underneath.   The dragon head all finished and up on the bow.      The dragon rider got his sword.   |

I have consistently been getting my initial expectations greatly exceeded every year, even though I have been increasing them to what I think can be done in ~8 months, but the students exceed those nit picky standards and add even more. They have most professional excellent guidance and a whole lot of pride and self drive pushing them through these projects. I suppose they must always want to one up the previous class to some extent as well. The one constant that hasn't been met is minimal cooperation from robotics at any point other than emergency and patches, even though this is as close to real world project practice as they'll likely get in the area.  |

Update 5/29.2
Kids are gone. Haven't heard from my robotics students about updating the software one last time, but they may come in tomorrow, faculty last day. As I said earlier, CAD delivered the tail keel carvings this morning. We were done right?  The CAD artist who created it, got them fitted and glued on, then later he worked to help paint them.    After some frantic oil painting by several students over the first couple hours this morning.   This signature was important to capture. He was one of our team leaders through out the year, and worked damn hard to make everything as good as it could be on the castle and ship. I was very proud of his work this year.  So they don't get lost.......

Had a random question come to mind earlier today. How much does "the investors are watching" factor into student willingness to tackle rework for projects that aren't quite where they need to be? I'm sure work ethic varies by community and yours seems above average but knowing the age groups you are working with I could see motivation being a challenge. Since you seem to have mixed classes I am sure mentorship from the older students is also a factor.

My Senior robotics may show up to mess with the code tomorrow, but as it stands, the adventure for 2023-2024 has come to an end.
I want to thank everyone again for all the amazing support this year. The project would never happen without ARFCOMERS. Rooms are mostly cleaned up and I've only got a few things left tomorrow.

But now, next to the oil painted wood grain and smooth lines of the new boat, the original one just looks kind of sad with the flat brown and slightly wavy lines to it. The improvement in that alone is vast, let alone the dragon, dioramas, murals, lights, and tower around the pillar. Just amazing all around, it's been a really fun year, and the students did an amazing job. As I said earlier, above and beyond. Every Year. I think the trickle down of information and general tips on how to build things from seniors down to freshmen has had a huge impact, since the freshmen in the Space Shuttle tiling have now been graduated after passing down tips and methods to other students which improved each year and that info has now gotten a crop of people who really strive for high standards without us having to pick at you nearly as much. I couldn't really nag about much this year as it turned out above amazing! Teacher and Students should be quite Proud. |

The end of the project is all but here. I have sent the the video link and some of the pictures to my siblings. They all agree that this project was just spectacular. And that the donation made in our mother's name was worth every penny. We know she was watching from above and is very pleased with the students AND teacher. We are sure she pulled her sword and raised it in praise to all. EBR |
