I've been carrying Benchmades since the '90s when I lived in the PDX area.  I have a mini reflex that's been in my pocket more often than not for the past 20 or so years.  To say I'm very disappointed and disgusted would be a considerable understatement.
I just ordered a Protech Brend 2 to replace the mini reflex.  If I like it well enough, I'll order something higher in the Protech food chain to replace my AFO.  I won't use a BM again.  I'll wait to decide what to do with the three I have when I'm less angry about it.
And I'll repeat the chorus line:  FBM.

After seeing this thread today, I just went thru my collection and was disappointed in the fact I had some BM's I considered "special" to have. Nothing about Benchmade is special anymore  imho, unless you're a gun grabbing socialist Demoncrat!

Four of mine are over 20 yrs old and NIB, so they were likely made before the SJW's took over at Benchmade. A couple others in the collection are newer and limited numbers and real nice EDC's.  Don't care one bit how nice a knife is...

Oh well, that's the end of Benchmade in my eyes.  I plan to share my thoughts and Benchmade's political contributions and antigun views with everyone who'll listen 365/24/7, forever.

The Protech Godson may be the best EDC auto available.  Not the best for heavy duty cutting or self defense, but its just the right size for a pocket and EDC tasks.

Every Protech I've ever handled, and I own a few of my own, is super-snappy and well built (Super Snappy sounds like a Gisselle branded knife LOL!).

We screwed up. There's no excuse to be made. A series of decisions by Benchmade employees have resulted in what will probably be the end of this company we've worked so hard to build.

In the spirit of my personal belief in the value of difficult conversations, I want to convey the following information, not as an excuse, but as a one-stop shop for the truth on this matter. Some of the revelations that follow aren't attractive, but I believe in difficult truths, as well.

A Benchmade Shop Foreman (or whoever) made a decision to allow the local Police Department to use our equipment to destroy guns he believed were under legal obligation to be destroyed. A thorough investigation will be conducted into this employee's motives. These investigations will be made public. If there is an indication that the employee had a political motivation for his actions, he will be terminated.

We understand that the deeper and more damning issue is that of our political contributions.

Some of you may know that we enjoy certain government contracts to provide our knives to the Armed Forces. Certain factions within Benchmade, I among them, believed that contributions to certain parties would assist in the continuation of those contracts.

These decisions were short sighted and wrong.

In an effort to regain the trust we've lost in our user base, we intend to do the following:

-X% of our profits over the course of 2019 will go to 2nd Amendment Organizations. This figure represents our normal investment into R&D, our company bonus program, and our yearly cost of living increase. As a result of this contribution, we will almost certainly lose good employees and we won't be introducing any new knives for 2019.
-10% of every knife sold going forward will go to those same 2nd Amendment Organizations
-I am immediately stepping down as President
-We will hire two known personalities from the gun industry to sit on our board of directors.

Our goal here is to become known as the most Pro-2nd Amendment knifemaker in the US. We are asking, hat in hand, for an undeserved 2nd chance.

730S Elishewitz pre-production dealer sample #127/1000, given to me 15 or more years ago by a good friend of mine.  Its been in my safe the whole time.

PR guy claims to be 100%, and claims Benchmade is 100%, supportive of the freedom and right to keep and bear arms.

Claims that in Benchmade's existence it has contributed in the millions of dollars to organizations that fight for our right to keep and bear arms.  "We're all aligned on that fight."

"Took the risk and lead the fight on knife laws!!!"  "Our stance is no different on guns."

Says they won't destroy guns again.

I'd like to see evidence to back up his claims they've spent millions of dollars supporting pro-gun organizations.  Lars wasn't as direct about it as I'd have liked, but they did discuss that aspect.

If they did that, and then going forward lived it, then I would buy Benchmade.
But my experience is that folks that behave one way when no one is looking, is there their true beliefs.
