I love Platoon, Tom Berringer was amazing as Barnes... watched it a few months ago and realized I'm so familiar with it it's kinda done a Led Zeppelin effect on me and just couldn't finish..

I was in awe when I saw Seargent Hartman for the first time with the recruits in the barracks.

Top Gun and Maverick the sequel. I don't enjoy nonfiction war movies at all. I can't be entertained by the real events. I started feeling this way after watching Blackhawk Down. (My son is a US Army helicopter pilot) |

The Longest Day Zulu Those are my three favorite war movies. Honorable mention to all the others here and Force 10 From Navarone. ETA: Also the cheesy-ass Big Red One movie. Edit 2: I like Sands of Iwo Jima, I don't remember if it was mentioned. Also, Glory. |

I think of this. I watched Platoon and Saving Private Ryan….I never want to see a US soldier serving or dying for any foreign entity.

Quoted: Master and Commander View Quote That is probably mine, though there are many on my fave list. When i was bronze here, Lucky Jack Aubrey was my avatar. Incredible film and even more amazing book series. My #2 is most likely The Pacific. I know it was a series, but that series really got under my skin. Everything from the anguish of Basilone's sacrifices, to Sledge's father quietly listening to his son's nightmares from the hallway "after" the war. My mother was adept at calming my father's occasional rough nights. |

The most realistic movie about being in the military and combat, of course: Kelly's Hero's.
