Figured I ask here.

I'm military PCS'ing from Hawaii to Virginia and will have 2 pistols (with 10 round mags) in my checked luggage.  Also flying with a pet.  Basically the only way I can get to VA with a pet is to fly into CA and then catch another airline.  

Due to arrival/departure times, I would have to stay overnight in Cali.

Main question.  Will it be an issue if I fly in on a Friday, leave the airport with my firearms to go to a hotel, and then fly out the following day?

Shouldn't be.   The "Roster" deals with sales, not possession.  Assuming they aren't threaded barrels or otherwise somehow prohibited in California. One can't import/travel through California with "assault weapons."  But, with them "hidden" in the luggage, packed legally for air travel, that's fine for traveling with them here.  Probably not a good idea, to make a big deal about checking them in the luggage carousel area, etc.

Based on what you're saying, and assuming the pistol is not otherwise prohibited (threaded barrel, for example) you are good to go.
