| Thoughts on this ammo? I have heard good and I have heard bad. A friend a a few cases to sell and I'm thinking about buying it from him. Thanks. |

Anything IMI makes is worth a look to me. I have never used the Independence, but have several ammo cans of 55 grain 5.56 with Hebrew writing on them. In fact 5.56 55 grain FMJ is the extent of the english. If the price is right, it would be worth a try. Ask hm to buy a few boxes to tryout first. Good Luck with this. |
|
Personally, I'd pass.
While I have had good luck with IMI ammo... whoever made the specs / load recipe for Independence ammo should be retrained. Independence ammo was clearly to hot loaded in my tests. Other batches have been "normal" velocities.... but , if the QC is that lacking on a commercial load.... I'll pass... and spend my hard earned money on other, better ammo. |

What velocities are you guys getting with 16" barrel and Independence? .......................................................................................16" Middie.........................20" Rifle.............................. Independence 55gr (XM193I).. FC 2,1, 13.................Av. 3195, ES 50.................Av. 3343, ES 94..........................Same type of headstamp as IMI 77gr , 4 MOA I will add.... accuracy was certainly affected from the excess speed.... dismal. From this thread ( much More chrono data ) http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_16/676005_Various_Chronograph_results____16_Middie_and_20_Rifle_.html |
| Im surprised to see so many who don't like the Independence here. Back several years ago when PSA had it at around $5.75/box of 20 I bought several thousand rounds of the stuff. Shot it through several different rifles without any issues at all, I would have bought more but the price started creeping back up on it. |

ive run thousands of rounds of independence through multiple rifles with 0 issues. Consider yourself lucky, like perhaps you should play the lotto. Many of us have had down right scary experiences with Independence. Maybe the chambers on other people's rifles can handle this ammo. None the less I've seen minimal complaints of this ammunition. Midway shows 4.6 out 5 stars out of 48 reviews for instance. |

I don't know about that to a 100% certainty. I work in manufacturing and anything can and will happen, but the positives far and by far out weight the negatives. |
| During "the panic" Independence was some of the only 5.56 I could find locally. It was the only 5.56 I shot for a little while because I didn't want to get into anything else I had stockpiled. It all went bang, I didn't have any issues with it other than its inaccuracy. I shot it out of multiple ARs and an AUG. |
