Hmm... not too bad. Round count?

Interesting how the deepest channels seem to hit a certain depth and then start moving kinda laterally at some point.

I would say very conservatively 20k rounds.  It pretty much always had a can on it.  I shot 24,500 rounds through it and it wasn't until after 24k it started to keyhole.  Very limited full auto fire.  Maybe 500 rounds total fired in full auto.

edit:  This above round count was just on my 10.3".  It's been shot on other hosts also.

Oh ya. Lt110, and maybe lt101 for that 5/8 action. Since getting the arms #54 (high rise), my lt110  has been lonely.

Its so hard to justify a peq2 for myself right now. I need to get my suppressor game up first. Priorities!

Then that doesn't seem too bad at all... I figured it was 20k or so.

I was a little concerned when I had a chunk come out of mine at less than 1k, but since then it's been soldiering along fine.

The length/positioning of the lever differs on a semi-auto safety from that of a full auto safety.

You can purchase and modify a Colt FA safety, or look for older retro non-ambi Colt safeties. Also, some companies still make SA non-hotdog safeties... probably DPMS or similar? I don't recall.

If you want a Colt, it's basically FA or retro non-ambi. As mentioned, if using the FA version, it'd probably be a good idea to shave the "fin" to make it a true "semi/semi" safety. Not that an unmodified FA safety is going to turn a semi to a full auto, but just for the sake of not using any FA fire control parts.

ETA: I guess I should add that if you use a FA safety, you'll also be able to rotate to the 3rd position (safe/semi/semi). Kinda nifty, I suppose. Actually, if you're using a lower without selector stops, you'll be able to rotate a full 360 degrees, lol.

Seems like a lot of work. I appreciate the explanation. They would go in colt m4 carbine lowers, and those have the selector stops milled off. a safety that is able to spin 360 wouldn't feel right to me, and may be a safety (no pun intended) issue since the mk18 doubles as a HD rifle.

Not 100% sure on that. I've got a FA Colt safety in a lower around here somewhere and I'm sure the detent track has hard stops to prevent that. But it's been so long since I've had that particular one out, I could be misremembering.

Nah... a FA safety is no more likely to end up in a position you don't intend than a semi-auto safety is to end up going from safe to fire. Both are held in place by nothing more than the detent; the only difference is, the FA safety can move to another position and potentially past that if you force it out of the detent hold. Functionally, you'd never notice the difference unless you intentionally move it to the third position or beyond.

The only mod that's (debatably) required is a small metal "fin" that needs to be milled or ground off (designed to push down the SA disconnector so that the auto sear can engage). You can do it in a few minutes with a Dremel. Technically, if your gun isn't FA, it isn't FA - whether you use a FA safety or not. But, in the unlikely event you ever had an FCG malfunction, it'd be better to show you took affirmative steps to render the FA safety not suitable for use in a select-fire.

Got it thanks man. Do they still make the non hot dog safeties? Now that I look at them all of mine are hot dogs.

Not 100% sure on that. I've got a FA Colt safety in a lower around here somewhere and I'm sure the detent track has hard stops to prevent that. But it's been so long since I've had that particular one out, I could be misremembering.
I've got one and it definitely goes 360... no hard stops. After all, it was designed for use in lowers with selector stops, so it does make sense.

I mean, you could put a couple of tack welds and stop it, but I don't see much point.

I heard this was a safe spot for 10.4" H&Ks
Much work to be done, like a G33, Brownells lower to form 1, and a Surefire can to form 4.

SB tactical's SBA3.
Its okay, but its biggest advantage is being able to run it off a standard mil-spec carbine tube.
A tad short even when fully extended, but this is coming from a guy who rocks SOPMODs, as well as CTRs and CAR stocks with buttpads.

And it's a safe place for skateboard pics! I've posted one a time or two.

ETA- and I like how the sba3 looks how you have it. Less brace like.
