I picked up a Savage Rascal for my baby boy, but our foster kids have asked if I would take them shooting so I'm looking for some kind of optic for it. We'll be shooting at 100 yards max, mainly at clay pigeons and soda cans. I've already got the EGW rail saved in my Amazon account and I'll get some decent rings for it. I'm not looking to break the bank just yet, but I don't want a cheap piece of crap either.
Thanks for the input. |

I put one of these on my 10/22 and I like it a lot. Bushnell 2-7x/32 Drop Zone-22
I then installed one of these Aim Assist Throw Levers and it made a huge difference. Are you looking for more than 7x magnification? If so, check out the Vortex Copperhead 3-9x40 which I just saw on eBay for $120 free shipping. |
| I'm just looking to get something decent for the kids to blast clays with, 2-7 or 3-9 should be fine. We aren't competing or trying to stretch out .22LR so I don't think the higher magnification scopes some of those guys are using aren't necessary I've read through this thread and found a few to look into. |

We talked about scopes for a CZ Scout here. https://www.ar15.com/forums/Armory/Scope-for-CZ-455-Scout-/11-500849/
Haven't made up my mind yet. I am looking at the Nikon 3x9 40mm EFR types but the Nikon eyepiece diameter is fairly large so there can be some bolt lift interference issues. The Leupolds have a smaller eyepiece diameter but are smaller, too, which would be nice on a small rifle. |

Small frame rimfire rifles like the Savage Rascal tend to look and feel top heavy with any but the smallest scopes. I wanted a significantly better scope than the typical garbage 4x15 Tasco, but not as large and heavy as the usual Leupold, Nikon, etc.
I found the Wolf Pup scopes, which are copies of the old and lamented Baby Redfield sold by GruBee. With a 3/4 inch tube, 9 inch length, and about 6 oz weight, it's scaled correctly. Although it's made in China (of course), reviews from the rimfire dedicated websites are generally good, with a few lemons reported. I have not wrung mine out sufficiently to recommend without reservation, but it certainly looks good on first evaluation. Hopefully they are up to the quality of the Chinese optics sold by Primary Arms. |

I put 2.5x7 28mm Weaver Rimfire scopes on both my boys Rascals. Good little scopes and they look "right" on the Rascal.

| I went and checked out the Leupy VX Freedom 1.5-4 x20, and it was surprisingly compact and light. I plan on getting one for a Model 24, which is just a hair larger than the Rascal. Only issue is that it’s not a dedicated rimfire scope and therefore has a fairly long distance parallax. It can be adjusted if you are that concerned. Decided to go this route vs the Baby Redfield route after looking at the Leupy in person. |
