I'm looking for a Commander size 1911 or 1911 style (sig) pistol in .45, or 10mm. I am looking for something for EDC, and also to carry while hunting.
What would you get, and why? $1,000 is the max. |

I'd probably go with the RIA and try to spend less of the budget (Ruger would be the more expensive of those two options), so I had money set aside for high quality mags. |

Not sure what they're going for these days, but my first pistol was a Colt Combat Commander for 950. Several nice features included.

Wilson, Chip McCormick are the best. Expensive though, but if you're spending a grand on a gun buy good mags too. |

I'd say a Ruger night Watchman commander, if you can find one.

Glock of various flavors, Walther PPQ, HK VP9, CZ of various flavors, SIG P365...spend the remainder on magazines.

Gonna get creamed, but Springfield makes a nice 1911.
Be warned, they tried to stab the gun community in the back. |

Honestly for that price range id be shopping for something other than a 1911. My Wilson built gun was $1850 used and I jumped on it. I've been offered a hell of alot more than that for it several times.

OP asks for some direction on a Commander sized 1911 with a top budget of $1,000.
First post... Quoted: Glock 17 MOS and an RM06. Much more capable weapon Quoted: Glock of various flavors, Walther PPQ, HK VP9, CZ of various flavors, SIG P365...spend the remainder on magazines. |

Want new? For a grand or less, I've picked up Brileys, Les Baers and Clarks built by Sr along with 99% of my other 1911's.
There is only one 1911 I own that cost considerably over a grand and that was a US&S. You have a lot of choices at a Grand price point. I would caution you though, the used market can be filled with hacked on pistols that are, for most purposes, trashed. |

Not sure why anyone would EDC a 1911 anymore. But if you must, check Gunbroker for a lightly used Colt Commander. You may find a new one in your budget. I was going to sell some of my 1911's last year and prices are in the gutter on them so didn't bother. |

Look on the ee. There are very well cared for pieces that pop up for 20-30% below msrp and are not yet at breakin of 500-1k rounds. You likely will have better selection and less gas in today's market conditions.

Slim pickings in that price range for 1911s around here. Good luck!

Waste of a grand. Save up and get a DW. I got my Guardian for $1299. Buy once, cry once.

Remember when it was cool to post the pic of the new 1911 Glock?

if you've got 1000 dollars for a handgun thats glock + rmr territory for red dot 33 round goodness all in one package.

Kind of like buying a Chrysler in terms of maybe a few initial quality bugs if you are unlucky but I love my Kimber TLE. Good feature set (night sights, checkering) without paying too much extra for fluff.

Sad truth is Springfield makes best 1911’s before you get to Dan Wesson money. But Dan Wesson is worth the increase in budget

I have had over a dozen SA 1911s. Only one that wasn't good was a mid 90s stainless in .40. The list is long what was bad on that pistol. Stay away from the run they did with the missing finish radius around the front strap and dust cover. |

My Ruger SR1911 would not feed anything other than round-nose ammo with the factory mags or Wilson mags. I picked a cheap Triple K mag at Scheels that would feed anything so I bought several more. |

I have been thinking the same way OP.
I have Glocks but I miss the feel of a 1911. I carried one for years, yes I’m a gezzer. I got out of .45 a few years ago, sold most of my collection when I thought my expiration date was near. I’m looking at 9mm government sized. Not necessarily EDC gun. It’s my funeral |
|
I’d find a Colt or jump to a Dan Wesson. Colts will hold their value, and they are generally a good gun. I have had 5, only have 1 left because striker fired guns suit me better
I have a few friends with DW guns and they have been very nice for the money, I would not hesitate to get one, but they are going to be over your budget. |
