Hide/fur tanning kit.
My uncle gave me one when I was 8 or 9. He explained and showed me how to skin, flesh, and tan some muskrat and mink. Small, cheap hand tool set to help wrench on things . My dad got me set up around the same time. It was fun working on small engines with him. |

Quoted: Compass Knife 22 rascal Frisbee A book on knots View Quote You and i think a lot alike here. My first suggestion was going to be a little baseplate compass (and watching some YT videos on how to use it with or without a map) I learned the power of a compass as a boy, while coon hunting with my uncle. |

Quoted: OK, you're already on to that. How about a youth single shot .22 rifle? View Quote This. Worked for me. |

Umarex Glock 19 CO2 BB gun was a hit at Christmas for my 8 and 11 year old. Looks and feels like a Glock, trigger isn't objectionable, and it is pretty accurate. 15 round magazine and I get about 100 shots per CO2 cartriage. Shooting cans at 7 yards is a blast!

A nice compass? A simple camera?
A real live pony, if you don't like his parents. Oops, you are the parent. Nevermind. |

Pellet rifles can be hard to operate when you are 8
This can a plus or minus depending on the kid. I was running around loose with one. My son needed supervision and assistance. |

How about some prep, paint, and wrench turning?
Buy this “kit” minibike at Go Power Sports, and you help him build it. The top of the seat to the ground is 20”. You will both be able to ride it. Attached File |

Quoted: Other than his first "real" pocket knife and a new CamelBak since he outgrew the old one, I'm kinda drawing a blank. He's got a huge interest in the outdoors, but we already have most gear he needs other than little things that can be just his. Doesn't need to be outdoor related, just what I've focused on so far. Responsible kid, takes care of the chickens, works with the dogs, and likes learning about new stuff. Normal 8 year old kid stuff. View Quote 100% the best gift I ever received as a kid; I may actually have been 8 when I got mine. https://www.bigbangcannons.com/ They are awesome and perfectly safe. (You'll love playing with it too ) |
