Dad’s been “dying” for 15-20 years. Had some significant health issues for sure, but he did nothing about them. Just sat on his bed watching Fox News. Told him his mobility was use it or lose it and he wouldn’t listen. He blimped up over the years and a month or so ago fell. Didn’t get injured but mom couldn’t get him up. Took 3 firefighters. Then some other issues and he went to the hospital. Got some fluid off lungs and kidneys or whatever and sent to inpatient PT.

Almost immediately claimed he had trouble breathing so back to the hospital. We told him mom couldn’t physically help him, so he needed to get good enough to walk to get home. Got moved back to PT Friday. We had hopes he’d finally put in some work. Well, not really hopes. Super pie in the sky hopes.

Apparently had more breathing issues, went back to the hospital and passed this morning.

He had a successful career, corporate exec, problem solver. Can’t understand why his motivation failed him the past two decades. Growing up, we were never wanting, but he didn’t spoil either. Taught the value of a dollar and a strong work ethic. He wasn’t SuperDad, but he was a good one.

Kinda wish he’d held on for a couple more weeks, we were due to visit with grandkids soon. But I never hesitated to tell him that I was a good man because he taught me to be one. He knew he had the love of me and my family. No regrets about things left unsaid. I do wish there had been something that could’ve gotten him to do what was necessary to live another 10 years, but that was his decision.

Well, I love ya Pops.

I'm sorry for you loss, sir. I'm happy to see the love was there, and I hope for your quick healing. You shared a relationship not all of us shared with our father's, so take solace in that.

Sorry for your loss.  My dad passed away in April, so today is really bittersweet.  He was 82, and had diabetes since his 50’s.  He had some infections and just never could shake them.  He finally had a stroke, and let us know that he was done fighting to get better.  He was on hospice for all of 12 hours before he passed.

I really miss him.

Watched my dad go relatively fast at 86. Watching my mom go slow at 85.  Both suck.

Sorry for your loss.

Anybody that tells you they don't struggle is lying. Some of us deal daily and some people seem to be unaffected. Try not to judge your old man too hard you'll never know his demons.

Sorry for your Dad's passing Buddy
It is one of the more difficult things a son will or should go through.  My Dad passed in March 2020 due to COPD, another one where all you could do was watch the inevitable coming, but at least he seemed to have a not so painful passing, at home.
Its good you had a good father, and you know you did.   Lots of men never did.

Lost my dad on May 18th.  It had been a long road of multiple strokes, hospital stays, and ER visits for the past 10 years or so.  In the end, depression got him and he just gave up.  FUCK YOU CHINA for contributing too his death (long back story).

My condolences on your loss.

Move forward, as there are better days ahead, and you'll work through it. Time heals all wounds.

Sorry for your loss. Will put you y’all into my prayers.

Just left my dad’s house. He’s following the same path. Has put off walking until he pretty much can’t any longer. Was always a big strong man. Now just big. It’s to the point he gets winded walking to the mailbox. Can barely get his own groceries.

Some people just seem to slowly give up with age. No other way to explain it. Best we can do is remember who they once were in happier times. Sorry for your loss OP. :(

I wish you the best in your time of mourning, it is never a set time.  This thanksgiving will be the 15th anniversary of my father’s death.  I still have my moments all these years later.

Perspective of time is funny, 15 years ago seems like a quick minute ago, but the last memory of my father seems oh so long ago.
