Sarge, between this and the tape drive, you have recreated my computer childhood. I was lucky enough to move up to the commodore 64 a few years after, then to the big time: Commodore 128, Man was I pimping it with that one. |

I think it's a Ground Hog, aka Marmot, also called a ground squirrel by some folks. I always called chipmunks ground squirrels.

Looks a lot like a Capybera (sp) from South America. |

That is a Capybara [Common Name] {Scientific Name: Hydrochoeris; Order: Rodentia; Suborder: Hystricomorpha; Family: Hydrochoeridae; Subfamily: Cavioidae; Genus: Hydrochoerus; Species: Hydrochoeris hydrochoeris; Subspecies: Sus Hydrochoeris; Kingdom: Animalia; Type: Vertebrae; Class: Mammalia; (Capivara is what it is called in Portuguese). It is the largest rodent in the world and its also the favorite food of anacondas. It lives in Brazil and Venezuela principally, but can be found in other countries in Latin America. It is a herbivore, with aquatic plants being its main source of food. The average weight is 50-60 kilos, but is has been known to reach 100 kilos. The name 'capivara' means 'master of the grasses' in Tupi Guarani (one of the most prominent Indian languages in Brazil, Paraguay, Venezuela, etc.). I might also add that the Capybara is MIGHTY tasty on the grill. |
