| I know kidney failure can cause congestive heart failure, but can congestive heart failure cause kidney failure? |
|
here is some sauce. im a nursing student, but here it is explained again from this website :
http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=681 "Congestive heart failure can also cause renal failure. Early complications of cardiac insufficiency include renal vasoconstriction and the development of sodium and water retention, which are hallmarks of the very early stages of congestive heart failure. Heart failure is a physiologically delicate condition in which therapy is designed to block the sodium retention and simultaneously interrupt excessively activated neurohumoral mechanisms. Profound reduction of cardiac output and arterial hypotension in severe heart failure may lead to acute renal failure." |

I have one kidney (it's why I'm not an NFL football player BTW). Anyway...get your BP under control PRONTO...this is one of the number one things you need to do to prolong your health. Get the weight off...I struggle CONSTANTLY...it's bad enough that I'm already just naturally big...but carrying around extra weight = bad. Watch your sodium intake for kidney health. I have what's called Secondary FSGS (early stage renal failure). I don't feel sick...but have to keep this stuff in check. I take a blood pressure medication (Cozaar) even though my unmedicated BP is 120/80...I keep mine in the 110/60 range. Develop a relationship with your Nephrologist, and stay on top of things. Good luck. Hax |

Not me, my grandmother. But thanks for the replies, She's had congestive heart failure for the last five years and is starting to show signs of kidney failure. She refuses to see the doc anymore and we're worried about her. Then again she's 94 and if I live that long I prob won't want to be told what to do either. ETA: dammit, I'm retarded today, edited for stupid old me |
