Congrats! How do you plan to tackle the rear? Are you going to back date the rear panel or fab up attachments so the the 78 tail lights fit?

Replace that Olds 403 with an early Pontiac 400 .You wont regret it . Check out Butler in Tennessee for drive train ideas . Correctly built Pontiac's dont need Chevy engines to go fast .??????i love me some Injuns.

My best friend in high school had a 78 TA. In the 90s I had a mint 79 400 4 spd WS6.

That's one of my favorite cars. I wouldn't be happy with stock power though.

Brings back memories, that interior shot. Had a 1979 Trans Am. Friend had a 79 Turbo 301. It did not last long and one day he was messing around and threw a rod. Drove mine till it got close to 100k miles on it. Brother in law needed a car so sold it to him for nothing. He drove it for several years after that.
Bonus points for being a 79 and the rear gas door not being crooked and drooping some which was a super common thing. Used to put saran wrap on the edge of the T-top to get it to seal. |

Neat. I wish I bought my friends Bandit T/A he sold back in the early 2000's. It was a real 455 car, pristine with flawless black paint. The only issue was it had a Light Blue Screaming chicken T/A decals with the waffle wheels painted light blue instead of the gold..... We called it the gay bandit.

AIR Force fireman I worked with bought one new in 78, the 455 was a dog and even though he babied the car it was still falling apart less than 2 years later. Great movie tho: "What's she wearing now?"

|
An OLDS 455 will drop straight in just saying. And it will do 60 in first gear with the rear end in that car.

I had a 76 that was pretty strong after the guy before me did the upgrade. |

Well after almost dying of heat stroke at the junk yard I have 2 good corner spoilers, and used wheel wells. It is damn hot in San Antonio today

Please tell us you are shitcanning the 403 Olds.
FIL bought a mint 79 back in ‘93. It was a complete turd. My 77 Formula w/ 350 Pontiac made it look stupid slow. After that I had a 80 TA 301 with a blown engine I put a built 400 in. That car was fun. |
|

In.
Mothball that 403. Install a proper Pontiac engine. That is all. |
|
A restomod TA is on my bucket list. That corvette is pure sex

Growing up, that was my favorite car. The 1978 front end was tits! I have no idea what they were thinking going to that 79 front end.

I would love one done in pro touring. Modern electronics, suspension, engine management and horsepower. 700-1100 horsepower with modern handling and traction would be awesome.

I had a 77 special edition Trans AM in mid 90's. I rebuilt engine, had transmission rebuilt. Had lots of fun working on it, Drove it for a couple years. But it was a Drive, wrench, repeat. I finally sold when I got tired of always having to work on it. It seemed I could never get to paint and body work due to mechanical issues. Not knocking Op's project. I'm extremely jealous. The Bandit run ended here not long ago. Over 100 Trans Ams converged. It was a sight to see. East bound and down!!!!
