So what is a good number from Experian?

I like to know the answers before I ask the bank

They should give you a guide on credit scores.

I'd say 700s are decent.

Yes, 700+ is "decent", and is generally regarded as the entry number to the "get what you want club".  While certainly the scores do "get better than" 700, the reward is not exponential.  700 or above is the means score for good rates, acceptance, etc.  You don't get to the "OK, we aren't even gonna ask you any more questions club" until you break about 775.  I'm at 813.  Woo hoo, go me!

If you pay for their credit score report they will give you the range, show you where you fall in comparison to the rest of the people they rate, and give you tips on improving your score.

I've only pulled my Transunion report lately.  I believe their scale goes up to 960.  So a score in the 700s is actually average to slight credit risk.  I'm not sure what scale Experian is using right now.

Mine came up as 803 last time, but then my shit comes out in neatly sealed airtight packages for easy disposal.

Seriously, anything over 700 is good, 750 excellent in terms of your negotiating power for loans.
