Took Friday off and let Socon2 skip school to go ride with me.
We went down to DuPont State Forest to ride.

If you ever watch Seth’s Bike Hacks, Berm Peak, Berm Peak Express Seth rides Cedar Rock a lot on all those channels

Nice,  Worthy of a skipped day, that's a mtb Mecca down there.

Hit a small mountain a little south of me for some lift serve in Sunday. Not the greatest trails, but I was in the area so I wanted to check it out.

Got out of work early yesterday and snuck in a quickie. Beautiful day to ride, I have to start snapping some pictures again, phone hasn't even been coming out of my pocket.

For real, I feel like this season is already flying by.

Rehab'd my old trials bike, messed around with that all weekend. Just barely starting to get my legs under me again with that stuff, slacked on it for a few seasons, bike was neglected.... Gives me something to play with on nights I otherwise can't ride.

This was the pre ride for next Saturday’s race.
We didn’t push hard, my oldest is 18 and he decided he’s
gonna do the race, just wanted him to be familiar with the course.

It is like 15% humidity, so once your moving its not bad. we'll be pretty near 100° before the weekend.

acclimation to the heat pretty much requires a few short rides in the hottest part of the day. do like 3-4 rides in 100° and high 80's becomes nice

Man, that would hurt me. How much water do you typically bring on a ride?

Ill easily finish 2.5l camelback on a 20mi ride in this heat.

The big trick is to prehydrate. Day before drink water with weak electrolites till your teeth float.

Riding out of my front door is coming to an end here till after the heat breaks and monsoons start.

I only have two rides on it but so far I like it a lot it seems way better than the specialized seat that came on the bike.  So far I haven’t experienced any numbness. It’s the Ergon SM Sport Men. A local bike shop measured me and recommended the M/L.

Been under the weather since Saturday....so maybe tomorrow I will ride.  I had to cancel my Tulsa Tough race this next weekend.  Family and I are doing a last vacation before my son heads to college.  So I say it is for a very good reason.

Get well Dude.

It’s a crazy week here too. My oldest graduates HS Friday night. He and I are both doing a race 8am Saturday morning a little over an hour away. After the race we gotta get home unload bikes and then drive 6 hours to the coast for a weeks vacation. I plan on being a zombie by Saturday evening

Ok, I'll go through that much on a hot day myself, (90s) but I drink a  ton of water anyway . Prehydration makes sense.

Also, literally monsoons? You guys get a wet season? I know so little.

The dryness is a big factor.

if you don't pre-hydrate you'll spend the whole ride trying to catch up rather than maintaining. which means massive headaches.

at the end of winter, we don't get much moisture till monsoon season. like 90+ days with no measurable rain.

then monsoons hit usually late July. massive storms in the afternoons, often daily. once they start temps sit in the 70's for the remainder of the summer.  September is the month to visit NM.

Right now we're in the thick of the dry season... the desert right now, impassable on anything less than 4.4 at 6PSI. we call it powdered sugar sand.

Interesting climate. I guess I always pictured a constantly dry desert, with "weather" in the mountains. But it really doesn't seem too bad.... Except....What's the scorpion/snake/spider situation down there? Loaded?

I was surprised i didn't see a rattlesnake this morning.

Its really not too bad, we get reasonable riding all year with a few exceptions. There's enough variations between high mountains and lower desert to find something reasonable. Its not Phoenix hot.

The mountains certainly get more weather. But everything will be pretty dry till monsoons.

I just got the wife a gravel bike. She hasn't ridden a bike since she was 9 and has only ridden singlespeeds.

She was nervous but it came back to her. After a few runs up and down the street to figure out shifting and disk-brakes, she did 6 miles of paved trails and dirt singletrack (incl 600' of hills).

She loved it!
I'm super proud of her.
