I am in need of a "new" (to me car) and have been seriously considering a MazdaA3 (not really worried about the model).

My #1 concern is fuel efficiency and reliability, and as I don't have much confidence in American made vehicles (and because of second hand experience) I am steering clear of Cobalt's and Focus's.

I have only heard good thing about Mazda's, and I would consider a Toyota but they seem to be overpriced (on the used market especially) probably because of how good they are and I can get a Mazda with lower mileage and more features for less money.

I am looking at one in Columbus with 42,000 miles on it and they are asking roughly $9,000, and that is about as much as I want to pay for the vehicle.

So if anyone has concerns or input, please, let me hear your experiences and opinions so that I can make a good decision.

The Mazda 3 shares some parts and design specs with the Ford Focus.

They have a reputation for being reliable, economical and fun to drove. The styling is an "acquired taste", to put it diplomatically...

Good vehicle but couldn't you find something with lower mileage? At least still under warranty just in case.

I could, but not in my price range.

I would consider a ford, I just think they seem incredibly cheap inside, and the Mazda I drove was quite nice compared to the Ford. My friends drive a Fusion and it is crap. The engine shakes (probably mounted improperly) and the interior is very cheap.

Best car I rented of roughly 40 last year was a Mazda CX-9.  It was head and shoulders above everything else.

Second best - Ford Fusion.

The other 38 were messes of poor quality, horrid engineering, cheap cosmetics and anemic performance.
