The laguna meadows trail in the Chisos basin is a good climb and the penicles trail is supposed to be good as well. You can go in on one of them, hit the south rim trail for the best view and come back on the other with a spur up to Emory peak. I really enjoyed big bend.

Neat!

Thanks BigDAM!

I've never been to the southwest.

Hiking out there seems as foreign
to me as walking on Mars.

This randomly showed up in my back yard today. Hopefully it's just adopted into the flock with the other two chicks I did but last month.

Well its a brand new week. Any predictions to be made?

I'm terrible with predictions.

But, here go mine anyway...

I predict:

Somebody at work will
do something dumb;

My wife will complain
about (fill in the blank);

I won't hit the lottery.

I woke up way too early.

Started thinking about my grandparents
for no reason at all.

Years alive were:

1907-1978 paternal grandmother
1914-1978 paternal grandfather

1915-1986 maternal grandfather
1920-2011 maternal grandmother

I'm lucky to have met them all,
plus a couple great-grandparents.

It blows my mind now remembering
I had talked with people that were
alive in the 1880s.

Wow, I didn't even make it close to meeting anyone like that. Being born in 2001 I think the oldest I met (that I remember) was born around 1920.

I didn't appreciate how much history my great-grandparents had witnessed,
until I was much older.

My Virginia-born stepfather related to me how his great-grandmother from NC
would tell him that when she was a young child, Yankees would come up to
her family's farm asking for food.  (Whether it's a Civil War or Reconstruction
memory, I don't know.)

My grandfathers were born not long after the 1st flight of the Wright brothers and watched the moon landing on television.  An amazing time to be alive.

I was only 8 months old during the final Apollo (17) mission.

It would've been neat to watch a live moon landing.

Heading to the Gun Show later today.

Nice that it's just 15 minutes away.

53 and one grandfather was born in 1895. My moms brother was killed in WWII two months  before she was born. Spread out family.

Just finished up a quick 3am 3-1/2 mile ruck.

Saw atleast 25-30 critters around the forest.

I don't remember when it became no longer visible here.

The last time I saw it was from a coffee plantation in Kpalimé, Togo (West Africa).

I miss dark skies.

Awesome night sky pics!

Father's Day was okay up until my 10 y.o.
got a tiny scratch and freaked out.

Of course his mother had to baby him.
He's never going to "grow up" if she
always treats the kid like an infant.

Ruined the evening.

Take him hunting, camping, etc.

I managed to commission in the Army w/ a blood phobia.

The only time I've seen someone get shot (at a gunshow) I grabbed a tourniquet and marched over there.  Happily not needed, she only lost a toe.

Backyard camping in the Shenandoah Valley.

It's after midnight.  My oldest son and I hit the hay hours earlier.

My youngest son and his cousins woke me up about 15 minutes ago
while playing tag.

ETA - Air raid siren at 0215.

We got more stuff done in construction
and did it better 30 years ago without all
the electronic devices, office "help," and
fake Safety Managers that are forced
on us today.

Five hours before we set a single piece
of equipment yesterday.

Modern commercial construction is bullshit.

I used to think about moving away from
the northern VA rat race and back to the hills
of western PA, but most of my family there
are either dead, or living in Florida.

How does one wire a switch wrong?

Feed in, feed out.

Why is everybody in the house awake right now?

Wife, son,... pet rabbit.

These nighttime hours are supposed to be my
quiet, peaceful, bullshit-free time.

I'm up, watching a cartoon because
of my literal Night Krewe family, and a
character mentioned skeleton keys.

My grandparents had those.

Anyone here not know what skeleton
keys were?

He had wired the light switch so that when you flipped it on, both sides of the circuit were connected directly to each other in the switch.  He's a very smart guy but doesn't know how 120 VAC works.
