My work had me create an online store and they want me to use PayPal to sell because they're on a budget and it's free.
I have to add PayPal buttons under each item. When I create the button I need to build in the shipping cost. They plan to ship USPS and by weight, so shipping a 3 oz package to Alaska will cost more than if it were shipped to Texas. In other words, I can't just program in a set shipping rate ($10.00 for anywhere in the U.S. for example). I have to know where the customer is ordering from. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm thinking this is the way it works. The customer adds an item to their cart. When they go to check out, the shipping cost is listed on their invoice. They pay for the item. PayPal then notifies me and we ship it. This doesn't make sense though, because I won't know where they live until PayPal tells me. Thus, I won't know how much shipping will be until AFTER they buy the item and I get their address. So if I don't have their address to calculate shipping, how am I supposed to get the accurate shipping cost built into the button and listed on their invoice BEFORE THEY BUY? It's seems totally backwards. I tried to get my company to do flat rate shipping but it works out to be too expensive. |
